Unable to login or access pages

  • Unknown's avatar

    Obviously, I’m using a different login to post this, because I can’t login to my administrator account or my business account.

    I was working on our website: http://www.childadvocacytoday.org

    Suddenly, it gives a “500 Internal Server Error” : The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator and inform them of the time the error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

    It does this when I attempt to login, and when I attempt to access one of the other pages from the main page. Such as: http://www.childadvocacytoday.org/cats-tale

    When I try to login from the main WordPress page, it says my password is incorrect. It isn’t incorrect. I even attempted to reset the password and WordPress never sent me an email to reset it.

    I need to get the website back up and running! We’re having an event, and we just started advertising it, and now the website doesn’t work!

    If this is just a WordPress issue that will be resolved soon, that’s fine, but I can’t seem to find any indication this is the case.

    Help!

    Hi there,
    This is the WordPress.COM support forum. You need to post to the WordPress.ORG support forum for help with your site because it is not hosted by WordPress.COM.

    WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and have different logins, features and support forums http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

    Some hosts limit the amount of php memory to 8MB. Depending on what plugins you have running it sometimes may not be enough.

    If you have ftp access, try this:
    Firstly create a new text file in notepad or similar.

    “php_flag register_globals off
    register_globals = 0
    memory_limit = 64M”

    Save this file as “php.ini” and then upload it to your ftp server under the /wp-admin/ directory of wordpress

    If that doesn’t work you can try and edit your .htaccess file. This is usually found in your root directory.

    Try adding these two lines:

    AddType x-mapp-php5 .php
    AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .php

    Makes sure you backup this file before you tamper with it!!
    (also remember to put the dot before the htaccess when naming the file)

    Hope this fixes your problem!

    @themerkabah
    Please do NOT ever provide WordPress.ORG responses on these WordPress.COM support forums. The experienced Volunteers here can do that but we don’t and the reason we don’t is clear.Over 30% of those who post here are lost and ought to be posting to http://wordpress.org/support. If we behave like hotshots and help them they comeback here and they recommend their buddies with WordPress.ORG installs also post here too.That creates chaos because these support forums are ONLY for WordPress.COM bloggers and most who the WordPress.COm blogger who post here are beginners who become confused. If you want to provide support at http://wordpress.org/support go for it! But don’t do that here.

    @andrealkeith
    Do not respond to themerkabah in this thread – thanks. Create a thread in the WordPress.ORG support forums and he or another volunteer will help you over there.

    Thank you, themerkabah, for your willingness to assist. I will do my very best not to lure other unsuspecting “.org” users to the wrong support forum, enticed by your helpful advice.

    Not a problem! Yes, you did post on the wrong forum. – _ – But fret not! Now not only do you have a potential solution for your problem, you also know that wordpress.org is better suited for future questions!
    A WIN-WIN!
    Rock on!
