Unable to login to my account

  • Unknown's avatar

I am not able to assess my blog account. How should I go about to gain control of my account again? Tried to enter my email address for password reset but it says there is no user registered with this email! The blog is still ‘live’ on the web but I can’t seem to login.

How can I get WordPress to send password reset to the registered email?

Hello, I am unable to login into an old account onparkstreet.wordpress.com

Unfortunately, I think that I deleted the gmail account that would recover my password if I requested a new one. I had changed the email from one I opened the site under, and forgot that I did so when I deleted the account.

The funny thing is, I can only login to another wordpress account (under an active gmail) if I request a new password. Once I reset it, when I go back to login in under the new email, it won’t let me.

What can I do? I am happy to actually upgrade my account to a paid account if it means I can access my onparkstreet blog.

Oops, I forgot to add, that I was able to login in about a week ago under my remembered username and password and now I can’t even if I change cookie settings or use different computers and browsers?

I don’t know what is going on. Hmmm, blogging may not be for me :)

You need Staff help and I have flagged this thread for their attention.

  • yeehan, what is the URL of the blog you’re referring to?

dermatopathology, do you have access to the email address registered on the onparkstreet account or the account’s API key (which was sent in the Welcome email with a note to keep it safe). We will need one of those two to confirm ownership of the account.

    Thank you for the replies.

I did a very stupid thing. I think this is what happened:

I have not logged blogged at onparkstreet for about two years and logged in about a week or so ago under my original password, then, stupdily, changed the password without making sure the email of the blog was active. It wasn’t, it was an old gmail account I had deleted.

The API key was sent to an email account which has since been deleted – an old Excite account that I must have opened the blog under, I think. I forgot that the account may be deleted if you don’t access for month or so and now I see Excite doesn’t remember my username.

So, I have neither the API key, nor the email that the blog was opened under, nor the email that was connected to the blog. I feel terrible.

I suppose the best I can do is try and remember what I changed my password to, if that is what happened. It was a busy week and it was stupid for me to make changes during such a busy week without writing things down.

Is there any other way I can prove I am the owner of the blog? I found a few sites that try and help people remember passwords that they may have forgot, memory tricks, etc.

    Sorry for the spelling errors.

  • Unfortunately, no. We’ll need either an email from the address on the account or the account’s API Key to prove ownership.

Keep trying the password, most folks usually have luck remembering the next day.

    Hi,
I also encounter similar issue as yeehan. I am unable to access my old blog account which is still “live” on web. I tried to enter my email address for password reset, but it says there is no user registered with this email.

    My blog is http://peifen.wordpress.com/

Could WordPress please send password reset to the registered email?

  • The problem is that both accounts are sharing the same email address, which shouldn’t be possible. Do you have a second email address that I could change the other account to?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, could you please change it to (email visible only to moderators and staff)
    Thanks much.

  • I have changed the email address. Please confirm the change via an email received at the new address, then try resetting the password.

    Thank you macmanx

macmanx – thanks for the earlier replies!

I have one more question and then I will stop bothering you all.

While I was playing around trying to figure out what happened, I requested a new password or password change or whatever, but it must have gone to the gmail that is deleted. But since I obviously can’t access it to change anything, the password is the same as the last time I changed it right?

When you request a new password, you have to physically follow the link for it to change? Because if a new one is autogenerated, then my trying to remember won’t work, will it?

    Again, thanks all. Very helpful.

Ok, just this one more (I have to figure things out. It’s just my personality. Drives me crazy when I can’t figure stuff out :) )

If I can reinstate my excite email, is there a record of the original email associated with the blog, prior to a email change? Because if the account can be restored, then a password prompt could be sent to the email the blog was opened under, instead of the current email which has been deleted (gmail is gone for good, but excite seems to suggest an account can be reinstated without the emails that were in it).

  • Yes, when you reset your password, you are actually sent an email with a link to enter your new password. If you do not click that link, your password does not change.

It would only work if you can restore the current email address, which you might be able to get back from Gmail.
