Unable to login to WordPress.com with correct email address
-
Hi,
I have a WordPress.org site http://puppeteersofpugetsound.org and am trying to switch it to a WordPress.com site. When I attempt to sign up here (https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/) it asks for an email address. When I put (email visible only to moderators and staff) it tells me “Sorry, that email address is already used! Is (email visible only to moderators and staff) yours? Log in”. I have never signed up for WordPress.com under that email address so I’m not sure why I’m getting this message. If I then attempt to login using either “admin” or “(email visible only to moderators and staff)” as my user name, I get a message “You attempted to login with the email or username ‘admin’ on WordPress.com. If you were trying to access your self hosted WordPress.org blog, try yourdomain.com/wp-admin/. If you can’t remember your WordPress.com email or username, you can reset your password by providing your email address. If you have any questions please contact support.”Is there some way I can use (email visible only to moderators and staff) with my new WordPress.com account? Or do I have to choose a different email address?
BTW the URL below is not the blog I’m asking about, it’s a completely different blog. I wasn’t about to choose http://puppeteersofpugetsound.org
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Alyssa,
It’s registering as already used because you do have a user account already set up. It’s that email address, and I’m not sure of the password, but you can always change your password (the reset will be sent to that address). It looks like you managed to log in since you started this thread: you can add a blog to that user account to keep things streamlined!
If you’d like to switch the email to a different user account (like the one you’re using here), you will first need to log into the old account and switch the associated email to something else, then you can update your current account with the address you show here.
Does that make sense? Do you need some additional help? I’d be glad to lend further assistance!

Thanks for getting back to me. I apparently have two different accounts now and I’d like to merge them somehow. I think you said I can apply my existing blog (pofps.wordpress.com) to my (email visible only to moderators and staff) account but I can’t figure out how to do that. When I login as (email visible only to moderators and staff) I can create a new blog but I don’t see a way to add an existing blog to that account. If it’s not possible to add pofps.wordpress.com to (email visible only to moderators and staff), then I’d like to be able to switch email addresses on pofps.wordpress.com to (email visible only to moderators and staff). I have tried doing that as well, but the system won’t allow me to, saying there is already an account under (email visible only to moderators and staff). If neither of these are possible is there some way to just delete both accounts and start over? Thanks.

Ok I ended up resetting my (email visible only to moderators and staff) account’s gravatar password, then creating a new blog within it called puppeteersofpugetsound.wordpress.com. I think that will work out ok for now. Thanks!

Hi again,
I’m glad you found a solution, but if you’d like to pursue transferring the blog from your one user account to your other one, the steps can be found here:
