Unable to make all the blog functions work
-
1. Access the WP Admin functions. The blog opens at the Reader screen. has the ‘My Site’ link, and shows the stats.
2. The blog won’t accept the theme style I want. This is on the free plan. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You must be logged in under the exact same username that registered the site to be able to access the site. The Admin login link to the dashboard for every blog hosted by wordpress.COM is:
http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
Replace NAME_OF_BLOG in that URL with the actual name of your blog.
If you are not logged in under the correct username account then clear your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache and cookies https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-wordpress-com-cookies and then login correctly under the relevant username account.
If the login information has been lost go to
https://en.support.wordpress.com/passwords/
https://en.support.wordpress.com/passwords/#lost-passwordIf required use the account recovery form

The blog won’t accept the theme style I want. This is on the free plan.
Every theme has a detailed theme description page with set up instructions like this one https://wordpress.com/themes/twentysixteen/ and a live demo site like this one https://twentysixteendemo.wordpress.com/
We wordpress.com bloggers do not have access to the template files underlying our themes on wordpress.COM hosted blogs and cannot edit them. This is a multiuser blogging platform. All blogs wearing the same theme use the same underlying template found on the live demo site for each theme.

Volunteers cannot view private blogs and we Volunteers do not request access to them. Therefore, I do not know which theme you have and what you have done. Staff can view private blog content and if you need their help type modlook into the tags in the sidebar of this thread for their assistance. Then be patient while waiting for a response and subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

Thank you but this isn't working. I'm logged in correctly, I've been able to change the user icon, I've been able to give the site a name, I can see the site. But all the controls are grayed out. Maybe the problem is that when I started the account, I used one of those pre-fab these instead of choosing my own as I've been doing since 2009 and never ever had this problem in any of the 15 or 20 WordPress blogs I've had over the years. How can I get back to square one? I know I can't reuse the name, so I need to keep it.

I will type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for a Staff follow-up. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Also subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond and be patient while waiting. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

Hi @bksmdean, we can access the site.
But all the controls are grayed out.
Can you get a screenshot of this? You can upload it to cloudup.com or dropbox or whatever is easiest for you. We’ll start there, since I think having non-greyed out controls will likely help make the other issues easier.
