Unable to post – hangs when 'publishing'

Hi guys,
Have just started this blog today and while the first post worked fine (the ‘Hello World’ test post) any subsequent posts seem to hang when publishing.
Any troubleshooting tips would be much appreciated.

Last two days I am unable to add tags or links to posts and can’t use support feature. Lotys of error on page messages. Any ideas?

Are you using the secure https:// login? if not have you tried using it?
http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/Where are you creating the posts? If the answer is on the wordpress.com home page by using this link http://wordpress.com/#!/post/ then try creating them on your owm dashboard instead > Posts > All Posts > Add new

Note: If you are using an IE9 browser in compatibility mode that makes it render as IE7 and IE7 is not supported. To disable see > http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
Have you tried a. clearing your browser cache and cookies > http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
Have your upgraded yuou browser to thye latest stable version?

Yes I am using the secure log on
Yes I create all posts from my dashboard
Computer uses windows XP internet explorer 8 was reinstated this evening
Yes cookies have been cleared.
Still
When I click on “chose most popular tags” it takes me back to the top of page.
If I insert tags and click “add” nothing happens
The orange button at the top that holds a number does not pull down when I click on it.
Lots of other buton functions are no longer working including the one to take me to teck support. All this has changed in the last two days.
Anyone know why? -

Thanks so much for the information you posted. Microsoft will not be supporting IE8 as of November 15, 2012. IE9 is the latest stable version and IE10 launches on 10/26/2012.If you are not running Windows XP and you can upgrade to IE 9 I recommend doing that. If you are running XP like I am then I recommend downloading Chrome or Firefox. You can do any of those here http://browsehappy.com As for me, I’m running all three but I rarely use IE8.

I hope you bloggers understand that in order to help you we have to duplicate your computing environment. We have to set up the same operating system and the same browser and version of it that you run. Then we have to try whatever you are having trouble with. And, when we can replicate what you experience then we can determine the cause and find a solution.So far those who disabled compatibility mode in IE9 have resolved their issue and they are up and running. Would you please consider trying some troubleshooting and answering the questions I posed above?

YES I am using Windows XP and did not know that Microsoft will stop supporting it on 11/15/12.
That does not solve the problem however. It is not yet 11/15/12 and all these problems began occurring 2 days ago.
On my third try tonight I was able to get a message through to teck support. The first message arrived blank but then it let me enter things in the fields the second time. We shall see what they come up with. The last two posts did post but only after I stopped trying to add tags. With tags I get the same hang time issue others have reported. -
Yes I would be glad to try anything. I believe I have already tried everything you suggested see my post at 7:30 above.

Switching from internet explorer to Chrome seems to have fixed the problem. I feel like the man who woke up one morning and found he needed to speak Russian to make his car start. After using IE since the first time I used a computer having to learn a new browser may result in an episode of PTSD.
