Unable To Publish a Post.

Every time I try to publish a post, it comes up “Oops! An error occurred while saving the post. Assigned author cannot publish post”. Anyone got any ideas as to why I am getting this?

I am having the exact same problem with an identical error message. I’ve been unable to publish my post for 4 days now and am feeling rather frustrated.

Hello, I am having the exact same problem for 3 days now…Every time I am willing to publish something the message: “Oops! An error occurred while saving the post.
Assigned author cannot publish post.” appears. Why is this happening? Can someone from the WordPress Staff please explain it? Its quite frustrating! :(

Please let us know where you are posting. In the New Dash Post Editor (beep, beep, boop) or in the Dashboard Classic Editor?

You must be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard and publish posts under your own username account there.Assuming your are referring to your own blog (because you did not provide any other blog URL) it’s possible that you have demoted your own status from Admin to another user role like “contributor” http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/
Go to > Dashboard > Users and tell us what you see there.

Went into Dashboard > Users. It says Administrator under role.@justjennifer
In the New Dash Post Editor. -
Switch to the classic editor here Dashboard > Posts > Add New

Regardless, I’ve tagged this for Staff attention. It seems there’s a few people with this problem right now.

When I switched to the Classic Editor it worked :) Does this mean I should not try to publish with the New Editor anymore?

My role is also marked as ‘administrator’ and I was also using the New Dash Post Editor to post (which I don’t really like, but I’ve found it difficult to actually find the Classic Editor! I appreciate the step-by-step for how to get to it, @timethief). The issue now seems to be resolved.

Thanks for the report. @martinamp @gerardgrimes @martinamp, can you each confirm the URL of the site you’re trying to post to when you receive this message? Also, can you confirm that you have not received this message from the classic editor?

I too am getting this error when using the new post editor:
Oops! An error occurred while saving the post.
Assigned author cannot publish post.I am logged in as Administrator , and the original account that created the blog.
Classic editor works fine
