Unable to re-send ICANN confirmation email and can't get domain working

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hey there,

I’ve purchased a new domain for my site – current domain lavieenohs.wordpress.com, and the new domain is delightfullyso.co.

The DNS transfer apparently didn’t initiate properly, and inside the WordPress.com dashboard it’s saying that we need to verify delightfullyso.co. I received an email to do this already, and when I click on that link it shows that the information has been verified before. However, I still get an error in the Dashboard that I need to fix the issue with the domain.

Then when I click “resend ICANN email” there’s an error message that says the email cannot be re-sent.

Meanwhile, I also received an email from WordPress instructing me to set the nameservers

These will need to be changed to:
    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

Looking through the Forums, I feel like this might be a semi-common issue.

But since I purchased the domain from WordPress.com, I’m assuming the nameserver changes will happen automatically for me.

I feel like we’re stuck on this end and need some help. I’d be super grateful if you all can either
    1) just set up the DNS so that delightfullyso.co is the new primary
    or
    2) let me know what we might need to do in order to get everything working on this end.

Thanks so much for the help.

  • Hi there,

That domain is showing as already registered with Google Domains, so it’s not possible to register it with us as well. It’s possible that the domain’s availability had not updated yet when you tried to register it here, which is why you were allowed to add it. But as the domain already existed, it failed when we actually tried to register it for you.

I’ve refunded the payment you made for the .co domain, as there is no way to register that domain with us. If it was perhaps you who bought the domain via Google Domains, then you can connect it here using the domain mapping upgrade instead. You can add that from My Site ->Domains as well, by selecting the Map It option.

Use a Domain You Already Own (Domain Mapping)

    Hey Kokkieh,

Yeah, that’s correct. I went ahead and purchased the domain last night from google because I double-checked and somehow when we registered the domain from within WordPress it didn’t make it over to my account.

Since it was still available, I just went ahead and purchased it there and will go through the process of doing the transfer over. This will be more time consuming, but it should be more reliable.

Thanks so much for the quick response!

  • Okay. It’s not possible to transfer the domain to use from Google, but you should be able to map it using the instructions I linked to above. Let me know if you need more help with that.

    Hi Kokkieh,

What do you mean it’s not possible to transfer the domain to use from Google? You mean after the hold period is over, correct?

In terms of mapping, I just tried to set that up, however, you’re going to charge another $13 for domain mapping, on top of the hosting we’ve set up.

Given the fact that the domain didn’t get purchased correctly the first time, I’d like you send a coupon to waive that fee so I can go ahead and set the domain up this week.

    Thank you so much

  • Your domain registration is now with Google, meaning you pay them for ownership of the domain. That registration cannot be moved to our account, so you’ll need to keep paying Google to renew it each year, and using the domain mapping upgrade to connect it on our end.

I’ve refunded your original payment of $33 for the failed registration. The free domain in your Premium Plan is already being used to pay for the registration of your other domain, lavieenohs.com, so adding the mapping is an additional upgrade on top of that – Premium only includes one free domain.
