Unable to receive messages: Bounce with "Relay access denied"
-
I am able to send messages from my Gmail (GApps) account, but am unable to receive messages. Test emails bounce with the failure message included below. Google Apps Support determined that I am able to receive messages from an address without SPF records configured, suggesting that WordPress.com is filtering messages and denying. A search on MXToolbox turns up “Reverse DNS does not match SMTP Banner”, and all else looks normal.
I am wondering if this is due to having configured my account for forwarding previously, and how I can resolve this. I now have only my Google MX records, and the message at ‘Email’ in Domain Management states that I have custom mail servers and I am unable to use forwarding, as it should.

Per the conversation at Google Forums here , I checked my alias settings in Google Apps. My alias shows up as the following:
(email visible only to moderators and staff) (temporary email)
I set up another alias called (email visible only to moderators and staff), but the behaviour on test email is the same; bounces with the same message.
-
Sorry, didn’t realize it would cut the info in my last post. The main alias, which should be ‘farmer’, shows up as:
farmer (at) spraycreek.ca.test-google-a.com (temporary email)
…and the new alias I made is called ‘info’, but it has the same behaviour, so I believe this issue is on the WordPress side.

One more piece of info, below is the follow-up email from Google Apps Support, after testing the problem for 45 minutes on the phone and screen share:
As a recap of our conversation, we have tested almost all situations and I can conclude that WordPress has some kind of filtering over your messages that it does not even work as most of the filters that do not allow unauthenticated messages. In your situation I can send successfully messages to you without SPF, DKIM or DMarc which are options to verify your messages. People from authenticated servers cannot send you a message. Therefore the best way to go is to contact WordPress and have them remove the filter or that relay shown in the bounce-back message. Please review the following Help Center article with details on authenticating: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/180707?hl=en&ref_topic=3404236.
In addition, please check the DNS setting for your alias domain in your WordPress account.

Hi there!
It looks like step 17 got skipped here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/add-email-through-google-apps/
I’ve added that last TXT record to your DNS settings, so your email should start to work now.
Let me know if it still isn’t working in a few hours and I can take another look!

Great! I had been following Googles instructions and had not found that page. Thank you so much for your help; this resolved my issue.
