Unable to renew Domain Mapping

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi folks. My wordpress site thinkpress.wordpres.com is currently mapped on to the domain Pulsemedia.org. The mapping option was set to renew annually but it seems to have expired 2 days back. But I can’t seem to renew domain mapping since the website keeps returning me to the ‘Purchases’ page with ‘looking to upgrade?’ options. I just need to renew domain mapping. But when I try to change the ‘Payment methods’ option keeps returning me back to the same page. When I tried to ‘add domain’, it tells me my domain is already mapped on to a ‘wordpress’ site. All I need is to renew domain mapping. How do I go about doing this?

    Cheers!

Hi guys. I have received no reply. Is there some other way to get WordPress.com support?

P.s. the blog I need help with is thinkpress.wordpress.com

Hi there, I’ve tagged this for Staff assistance. Please be patient while waiting for them to reply.

Just a thought, is it possible that you need to be logged in with a different username account?

It is possible since this was set up as a communal blog though the other person who had administrative privileges left three years ago.

    Thanks for that extra information.

If that person originally bought the domain mapping upgrade, they will need to log in to renew it or to transfer the upgrade to you. They can also log in and post to this thread that he or she wants the upgrades transferred.

Alas, this person left the website in February 2013 and hasn’t been in contact with anyone of us. Are there any workarounds? Will the staff be able to verify and transfer using some other means?

If that person has left (and you don’t have their account log in info) and the domain mapping upgrade has expired, it would seem more sensible to ask Staff to remove the upgrade so that someone else can purchase it. However, let’s wait to hear from Staff.

    Many thanks for that advice.

  • Hi there,

As the upgrade in question is only a mapping upgrade rather than a custom domain, and as your account is the owner of the actual site itself, I’ve gone ahead and removed the expired upgrade from the site. You should now be able to add a new domain mapping upgrade to the site using your own account. To do that go to My Site ->Domains ->Add and select the Map it option.

As you mention the other user is no longer involved with your site, I’d advise you also remove them as a user on the site, especially as they have Admin privileges. You can remove a user under My Sites ->People.

Many thanks for the help. I have removed all other admins for the website. But when I go to My Site > Domains > Add > Map It and then enter my domain name and click on “Map it”, nothing happens. I tried it on different browsers but it still won’t map the domain (Pulsemedia.org).

Can you kindly advise how I might be able to deal with this?

  • I’m getting an error as well when trying to map it, so I’ve added it to your account manually instead with an expiry date in one week.

Can you please renew it from the Purchases, page, then go to Domains and click the Change Primary button at the top and everything should work again:

    https://wordpress.com/purchases/

Let me know if it doesn’t :)

Thanks a lot for that. That worked.

    Have a great day!

  • You might need to add the email forwarding that used to be on that domain again. You can find instructions for that here:
