unable to report a blog that keeps leaving "spam likes" on my blog

  • Unknown's avatar

the blog http://onlinejobfrhome.wordpress.com/ keeps leaving “spam likes” on my blog (http://thaiwithoutstudy.wordpress.com/)

http://onlinejobfrhome.wordpress.com/ links to http://onlinejobsfromhome.info/, which makes claims such as “TRUE STORY: “Stay At Home Mama’s Boy Earns $1832-$2856 Per Week Working PART TIME!!!”. I don’t think this person is really following my blog — they’re just spamming me.

When I try to report http://onlinejobfrhome.wordpress.com/ and click off “this content is spam”, the continue button is greyed out / unavailable, so I can’t file report. I have the same problem when i try to use the form at http://en.wordpress.com/report-spam/

How can I report this spammer? How can I remove the “likes” that they’ve left on my blog? Is there any way to block a particular user from liking my blog? How can I restore the functionality of the “report this blog” function?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Not sure why that is happening, are you sure the ‘this content is spam’ is selected (with the dot in the circle on the left of the phrase)?

I’ve reported them as spam, but, you should be able to.

@danielisreading: I just tried it again to be sure — I clicked off “This content is spam” — the radio button is definitely filled in (blue with a dot in the middle) but the “continue” button looks faded out and doesn’t work.

So just out of curiosity, how long ago did you report them?

Make Money Blogs are known for SPAM LIKES.

Nothing can be done about it, because they don’t even need to have an account on wordpress.com to have an account on gravatar which is all they need to use the LIKE option.

They FOLLOW blogs so they can abuse the SPAM LIKE button quicker from the reader without even reading your blog. I spent time before reporting them and even reporting the account on gravator, nothing changed.

@supernu: Thanks for the input, this is my first time blogging so I’m not familiar with how SPAM LIKES work. What you say sounds frustrating; on the other hand, this particular person *has* a wordpress.com blog (http://onlinejobfrhome.wordpress.com/ ), so presumably wordpress could at the very least suspend their blog — isn’t a make money blog violation of TOS?

I’ve had this error in the past, and it has turned out to be a browser issue. Try, when you get the Report This Blog drop-down, right-clicking to open in a new tab. In the meantime I’ll report it for you with a link to this thread.

You’re welcome. I don’t think its a violation of the TOS to have a blog that tells others how they too can grow money on trees.

I see many of these blogs, and they only use one page about MONEY MAKING BLOGS and the rest of the blog is usually about something else, to get away with it.

When I first started my blog, I was bombarded with these spam likes and even wrote a rant about it here. I still get these spam likes, even though I turned the LIKES off, but in the reader the LIKE button will continue to appear.

No, it IS a violation of the ToS.

@raincoaster; I didn’t know that, thank you. I assumed it was not, because Ive seen on minimum more than 15 of these blogs since i started my blog, so I assumed it was not against TOS.

Oh yeah, there are hundreds. We keep taking them down and spammers keep putting them up again, by the dozens. It’s an ongoing problem.

“How to make money” is not the problem, but “Make wads of money effortlessly online” is indeed against the Terms of Service. Legitimate business blogs are welcome but affiliate, MLM, and Make Millions Online kinds of blogs are not.

@raincoaster: Thanks for the tip (“I’ve had this error in the past, and it has turned out to be a browser issue. Try, when you get the Report This Blog drop-down, right-clicking to open in a new tab.”)

It might be a browser issue — both my computer & browser are pretty superannuated; & it’s an apple, so there’s no right-clicking — though all the other features of wordpress.com seem to work for me.

“In the meantime I’ll report it for you with a link to this thread. ” — thanks!!
