Unable to Setup Free Website

    I set up an new wordpress.com account & want to create a free website. After selecting
    My Site in the upper left corner, the site says I don’t have any website yet & asking if I
    want to create one. I click the button & it immediately wants me to create to transfer a
    domain. I don’t want to create a new domain & I don’t want to transfer a domain until
    I see if I can create the website I want using the free option. However, I can never get
    past WordPress.com wanting me to create or transfer a domain name. Any suggestions?

    Hi there,

    You should be able to click the create new site link at the bottom, type in the name of the site you want, click the free .wordpress.com subdomain, and then click start with a free site link at the top:

    Is the above not what you are seeing when you go through the process?

    Thank you for the response. I am not seeing what your first screenshot displays.
    After I login I am immediately under the “Reader” section. Next to that is the
    “My Site” section. When I click on the “My Site” tab I get a new webpage that
    says:
    You don’t have any WordPress site
    Would you like to start one?

    And there is a button labelled “Create Site”. After I press on that button I
    immediately get the webpage asking me to create a domain name or transfer
    one.

    Thanks so much for the details! I see exactly what you mean. That first step asks for a site name…

    “Enter your site’s name or some keywords that describe it to get started.”

    Here’s an example with “myawesomefreesite” — https://d.pr/i/YtmzDc

    Notice it loads a series of site URL options for you to choose from. Right in the middle is the free option (if that is all you need for now).

    Try this again. If you know the name of your site, go ahead and enter it in that first step, or enter a few words to describe your site. Review the URL options and choose what you feel best fits your needs for now. :)
