Unable to transfer domain

  • Unknown's avatar

We need to move our site off of wordpress.com onto another hosting provider. The hosting provider does not have any name servers. The original site and domain were setup through wordpress.com. We attempted to follow the instrucitons at http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/transfer-domain-registration/ . The process steps through then asks for a login to domainsbyproxy.com which we do not have. We cannot turn off private registration, we cannot transfer the domain name, we cannot set the name servers because the new hosting provider does not have name servers, we cannot set the A records because wordpress.com does not allow the root level domain of the site to be changed. Please advise.

You need to be logged into the ‘eparadis’ account in order to get access to the domain and initiate the transfer.

Please let us know if you need any further assistance!

I’m having exactly the same issue with my blog: http://www.timtopham.com. I have followed all the instructions, but to get the EPP code to give to the new hosts, I need to log in to the domainsbyproxy account to change the email listed with them to one that I actually use (it’s currently (email visible only to moderators and staff) – how am I meant to access that?).

Any help would be great. I’ve also gone through all my emails and WordPress did not provide domainsbyproxy login details when I bought the domain.

    Cheers

    Tim.

Actually, I’ve got a little bit further. I followed the instructions here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/transfer-domain-registration/

And got to the part where it’s ready to send my EPP code, but it’s sending to the email address that I used when I first bought the domain name and I no longer use it!! There doesn’t seem to be a way to change it.

Can anyone help with this one? :)

Ok problem solved for anyone needing this information!

If you follow the steps in the above links, you’ll be able to login to your domain manager and where you see the link “email my code” there is a tap near the top of the section called “contacts”. Click on that to change your contact information. It takes a minute or two to activate. In the meantime, click on “all domains” at the top to go back to the main menu, then click on your domain again and click “email my code” and it should now show the new email.

    YAY!

  • Hi there – Perfect! I’m glad you’re all set with this now, and thanks for updating with your solution. :)

Let us know if you need anything else!

@eurello – judging from what @timtopham has posted just above your entry – maybe a bit of fine tune or review of the support documents / instructions might be in order

  • Auxclass – Thanks for the suggestion – how to change that email is covered in the docs, but it’s not linked or explained in the documentation on transferring a domain, so we should add that in.

You be welcome – the better the documentation is the better the experience is for people and the less work in the forum and people get things done the first time

I have a wordpress blog that I’ve recently transferred to another host. I’m also wanting to transfer my domain but cannot find where to get the EPP information. It says it’s locked and I can’t figure out how to retrieve it. Can you help?

  • Hi Terry – You can transfer your domain by following these instructions:

Transfer a Domain to Another Registrar

If you have any trouble, please let me know which domain you’re transferring and which step you’re getting stuck at, and what happens when you try to follow it. I’ll be happy to help you out!
