Unable to unmap domain to map to another site.

    1. Currently 8bitglobal178337535.wpcomstaging.com host our website and has the domain goodwhale.com
    2. We have set up another site with new content in 8bitglobal3.wpcomstaging.com
    3. We would like to map the domain goodwhale.com to 8bitglobal3 instead.

    I am unable to find any command or dashboard function to perform the domain unmapping. And when I tried to map to the new site, it tells me that the domain is already mapped.

    Can you help me out? Thanks!

    You can move that domain connection to your new site. To do so, you will want to have the site owner (a different WordPress.com account) head to the following link:

    https://wordpress.com/domains/manage/goodwhale.com/edit/goodwhale.com → Transfer → Transfer to another WordPress.com site → select 8bitglobal3.wpcomstaging.com

    Hi, I need to clarify this.

    1. We are the site owner for the domain and BOTH sites.
    2. Also, we need to keep the domain management under the external registrar as we have multiple domain under management.
    3. We also have multiple apps and services that utilize the same domain and manage them through another DNS service.

    From the link you gave me, it seems like it needs to transfer the domain to WordPress first which is not the outcome we want. (The connecting to the domain link on the same page led me to the dead-end where it tells me that the domain has already been assigned.)

    Is there anyway you can first unassign the domain from the site? We can follow up with a connecting domain to the new site once that is done. It seems like some disruption is inevitable now, but we’ll have to cope with it.

    Please help to un-assign our domain from the existing site. So that I can re-assign it to the new site.

    We can certainly help with moving that domain from one site to another.

    As this technically moving a purchase, we would need account owner verification. I’ve reached out to the account owner to help get the ball rolling on that.
