Unable to update to current version of WP
-
Hello,
We are a university program that has not been able to update our version of WordPress for nearly a decade. It has now become unmanageable to work with given that most plugins require having a newer version of WP and our website is needing major changes.
Could you please help us update WP or help us transfer our website to a new account that already has an updated version of WP?
Many thanks for your time and support,
Natalia

Hi Natalia –
Thanks so much for reaching out. It sounds like y’all would benefit from working on a managed hosting environment versus running your own set up (which is what you’ve described).
On WordPress.com our team handles all updates and back end details for your project. This frees you up to only focus on the content. This means that we handle all the back end details of the site. Things like back ups, updates, security, spam, seo, ssl, mobile optimization, top notch hosting specs, and sorting out any errors or bugs that pop up along the way. When you run a stand alone WordPress installation, like what y’all have set up, then all of those details fall on to you – so instead of being able to focus on content you spend a ton of time and frustration fixing these sort of issues. Which is how you landed here looking for help.
Your site content can get moved over with our importing tool:
No matter where your site is now, you can move it to WordPress.com. This page will help you find the steps to take to migrate a site to WordPress.com. If you know what kind of site you’d like to import, click the menu option to the right to jump to that section. Self-Hosted WordPress.org Site If you have a site with another WordPress host, or a local development/staging site, you can moveThen we can help you get the domain connected to your hosting plan. The hosting plans start at $4/month. They’re available on https://wordpress.com/pricing/ If you think a managed environment is a better setup for the project and your experience level then we can help you through that process.
If y’all decide to keep with the current set up then you’ll wan to work with your hosting provider to get the updated specs you need to be able to update WordPress version on the project.
