Unable to upload a file to the root directory
-
Hi
I’m unable to upload a file via SFTP to the root directory of WordPress (/wordpress/core/6.4.3).
The folder and file permissions look fine (755 and 644 respectively).
I _am_ able to upload files to other directories on the server.
What am I missing?
Thanks
PS: I get the same issue when using the ‘File Manager Pro – Filester’ plugin. All icons for editing/deleting/uploading are disabled.

Sorry – this issue was mostly user error (and I will answer it myself):
a) I was trying to upload the files to
/wordpress/core/6.4.3(accessed via the__wp__symlink). This is not the correct location – I should have uploaded the file to the default (root) SFTP directory.Editing of symlinked folders is not allowed, hence the failure: https://wordpress.com/support/symlinked-files-and-folders/#about-symlinked-files-and-folders
b) For security reasons, File Manager plugins are not supported on wordpress.com: https://wordpress.com/support/plugins/incompatible-plugins/#database-file-system-altering-plugins
