Unable to use a site address after deleting it

I was attempting to change the site address of a blog I have, and ended up following outdated instructions that included creating a new blog and doing an export/import of all the posts. After creating the new blog, I noticed that there’s an easier way to just change the site address, so I deleted the new blog I created and started the process to change my blog address of the original blog. However, even though I permanently deleted the new blog, WordPress is telling me that the name I deleted already exists and will not let me change the address of the original blog.

Is there a certain amount if time that needs to pass before I can use the blog address that I deleted?

Note: This is a WordPress address that I’m referring to (i.e. “blogname.wordpress.com”).

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sometime after the 12 of forever – once deleted a URL is gone forever, as all the pages stated that you agreed the URL was gone forever

I may not have communicated the real issue clearly. The blog I deleted was an empty blog that I created in error. I just want to re-use the address of the blog I deleted, which I theoretically should be able to do since that address is no longer in use.

For example, if my blog address was myblog.wordpress.com and I deleted that blog, I should be able to use the “myblog” address for another blog since that name is no longer in use. However, WP is not allowing me to re-use that address for another blog, even though that address/blog has been deleted.

You communicated the issue correctly. Auxclass communicated the answer. There are three warnings and an email confirmation and they all state that deletion is PERMANENT AND IRREVERSIBLE.

That said, some staffers have taken it upon themselves to put the lie to that, so I flagged this for their attention. They may fish it out of the dead pool or they may not, but at WordPress.com, assume that when something says deletion is permanent and irreversible, it is permanent and irreversible, regardless of your assumptions and hopes.

Thank you for the clarification, Raincoaster, and what Auxclass stated now makes sense. I interpreted the warnings as the deletion being permanent and irreversible (i.e. can never get the site back), but I didn’t interpret it as “you can never re-use the address,

even for a different blog site

    “. Now I understand.

I guess it defied my own over-analytical logic. My thought was, “If it’s permanently deleted, then it no longer exists, and if it no longer exists, then it shouldn’t give me an error stating that it does exist when I try to re-use the address.” So the address technically wasn’t deleted–It was just inactivated and can never be re-used. I’ll just have to choose a different address.

    Thanks for the help.
