Unable to Verify site with Google Webmaster Tools
-
Hello,
I’ve been unsuccessfully trying to verify my site with Pintrest, a process that seems ridiculously complicated.
As far as I gather I first need verify my site with Google Webmaster Tools. I’ve followed the documentation on how to do this by adding a html file but infuriatingly it just won’t work.
I also attempted to add a meta tag to my site’s homepage. I am admittedly a hopeless novice when it comes to the technical side of things so maybe there is something simple I am doing wrong. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. I simply want to verify my site with Pinterest and get back to the logistics of creating and sharing my content. The site that I need help with is http://www.leightonliterature.com
Thanks for any help you can give me!
Leighton

Hi Leighton,
Here are the steps to verify your site with Google Webmaster Tools:-Log in to https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ with your Google account.
-Enter your blog address (without http:// or https:// in front)
-Click the Add a Site button
-The option you want is “HTML Tag”. (You may need to select Alternate Methods to find this option.)
-You’ll see a line of HTML code like this:
<meta name=”google-site-verification” content=”rc2RXSkjV5rz9P2s2hTwdDsnwTu4tD-gmruKUrqBGjs” />
-Copy that code. Then, leave the verification page open and go to your blog’s dashboard (in a new tab/window).
-Open the Tools → Available Tools page and paste the code into the Google Webmaster Tools field under the Website Verification Services header.
-Click on Save Changes. (The page will remove everything from that HTML code except the string of letters and numbers in bold above.)
-Go back to the verification page and click Verify. When I attempted to verify my site it was private and would not verify so I had to make it public in order to verify. I was finally able to verify after that.
Here are the steps for Pinterest Site Verification:
-Log in at http://pinterest.com/ with your Pinterest account.
-Go to your profile and click the Edit Profile button.
-Enter your Website address if you haven’t already.
-Click the Verify Website button.
-On the next page, next to How to verify, copy the meta tag (you’ll need to enter this on WordPress.com).
-Leave the verification page open and go to your blog dashboard (in a new tab/window).
-Open the Tools → Available Tools Page and paste the string from the How to Verify field of the Pinterest verification page in the Pinterest Site Verification field of your blog dashboard.
-Click on Save Changes.
-Go back to the verification page and click the Complete Verification button.I hope these steps help!

I’m having the same trouble and cannot get it to work, I’ve tried several times. I have made it public as well.

Thank u so much!! It worked- online it says to include http but your directions said to omit and it worked. Are you able to help me with Bing?
-
You’re so welcome! I’m glad it worked. Try these directions below for Bing:
Bing Webmaster Center:
-Log in to http://www.bing.com/webmaster with your Live! account.
-Click Add a Site.
-Enter your blog URL and click Submit.
-Copy the content value of the meta tag. The content value is the bold text in this example:
<meta name=’msvalidate.01′ content=’12C1203B5086AECE94EB3A3D9830B2E’>
-Leave the verification page open and go to your blog dashboard (in a new tab/window).
-Open the Tools → Available Tools Page and paste the content value in the Bing Webmaster Center field under the Website Verification Services header.
-Click on Save Changes.
-Go back to the verification page and click Return to the Site list. -
When I return to site I get a weird page with just some user XML version numbers and letters?
