Unaligned galleries in Classic Block
-
Galleries are no longer centred in my blog posts (both new and historic), and the buttons to align them have disappeared.
See this post for example:
Can you help? I am using Classic Block.

Hi there,
After taking a closer look I can see that this is an issue that is specific to your theme (Intergalactic) which was retired several years ago, and is not receiving updates and bug fixes any more.
Because your theme is no longer receiving active development, over time it will be less and less compatible with many features on our service. We are not able to address this issue, but you can consider the following options:
1. Switch to a newer theme: I noticed you use featured images prominently on your current site, so themes listed here would offer similar functionality: https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/featured-image-header
2. Use CSS to center alignment on your current theme: If you upgrade to the Premium plan, you have the option to use custom CSS to tweak the appearance of your site. If you opt to upgrade let us know and we can help with the code you would need.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve updated the theme to Intergalactic 2, but unfortunately it has not solved the problem. Any suggestions?

Hi folks, this behavior is also evident on the demo site for Intergalactic 2
https://intergalactic2demo.wordpress.com/2014/09/13/looking-up-at-the-stars/Here’s an odd thing.
When I initially looked at https://awesomeliesblog.wordpress.com/2021/06/10/fight-the-power/ the gallery images displayed momentarily centered and then off-center to the left like the above theme demo post.
Just a quick question for Staff: shouldn’t blocks, especially the Classic Block, work the same consistently regardless of theme? Thanks.

Hi there!
It definitely looks like a bug with Intergalactic and Classic Block. When checking this on my test site, I could not reproduce this issue when using Gallery Block.
You can still use Classic Block for writing if you prefer, but try switching the galleries to Gallery Block instead.

Not really. The styling would depend on the theme anyway, so you still can see theme bugs where some blocks will not work as expected.

Thanks. Is there any way the bug can be fixed? I have many hundreds of galleries already in Classic Block. Converting them to Gallery Block is not practical.
-
I have reported it to our developers, but as a heads up, they’re working through a backlog at the moment, so it may take a little while before they are able to review it.
Also not all bugs will be addressed because it depends on the bug’s severity and how many sites are affected. You can comment or check for updates directly on GitHub here.

Understood.
@awesomeliesblog after looking at your content, going forward you might consider using only the Paragraph and Gallery blocks as you write. When you place your cursor in the Editor workspace, there’s already a default Paragraph block there. Every time you hit ENTER, it automagically adds a new Paragraph block. Have a look at this support guide for more tips: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor-for-writers-bloggers/ -
@awesomeliesblog I would second Jen’s suggestion. We’ve got a bug filed, too.
Also, if you’re running into any trouble while using the regular paragraph blocks, please send details on what’s happening so we can get an issue filed for that as well. You should be able to just type, and when you want to start a gallery, hit enter and type
/galleryto get started. -
