unattaching images from a post

In my gallery 4, very recently, I added four images, two of Japan and two others.
I clicked on the two images I had added last and clicked the X above the image. Then I wanted to delete the other images, Japan, added recently, and two I had added maybe a year ago. The Text and Visual screens show nothing to indicate any images in that post, so I cant X them, one by one..
Also, I recently added many images to Landscape One and clicked to use the new better way of adding images. Now, in that post, all I see in the Text section is the gallery type and a list of IDs, AND I can see the pencil and X box.So, have you radically changed the way one attaches and detaches images from a post and how can I detach images from the older method and why is nothing appearing about images that are actually seen in a post?
And why, in Media, do I not have an Unattach button for attached images?Helpless in the frozen north

The way galleries work has changed in the last year, and the old way and new way are not always compatible (as you’ve discovered).
I recommend you make a note of which images you want in “Gallery 4” go to the text tab and delete the code you see there, and recreate the gallery using the new system.

I deleted the code; the images were still there
I’m not seeing the images now. Did that particular part work itself out?
In one of the now empty Gallery 4 posts, could you try adding a gallery the new way and see if it works better?

Let’s try two things.
First, is it ok with you if I try to delete the images from Gallery 4b?
Next, could you start a brand new post and try to add a gallery using the new method? I’ve included the instructions below:

If we can be sure you can create new galleries going forward, the strangeness of these existing posts shouldn’t be such a problem.

I wasn’t able to get one of the misbehaving posts to completely empty itself, but I did get it to work correctly. Here’s the process.
- Open the post you want to update
- Clear the content from the “text” tab
- Go back to the “visual” tab and click “Add media”
- Click “Create Gallery” in the upper left corner of the window that opens and follow the instructions from there.
To get an image to show up on the front page, scroll down the edit page until you see the Featured Image box on the right side of the page. Click “Set featured image” and follow the instructions from there.
Let me know if that works for you or if you continue to have trouble.
