Unauthorized domain
-
Long story short: same business, new owner. Old owner has the website forwarding to his new website. How can we claim the rights to our business name and website?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What do you mean by business rights? Do you have a registered trademark that’s being used without authorization?
Companies do not own blogs. Every WordPress.COM blog has a sole owner and it is the person with the WordPress.COM username account who registered the blog under that username account and their associated email address. They are the blog’s only owner and they are the site’s original Admin.
The blog’s owner must be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchased upgrades to renew them or transfer the blogs and the upgrades to another username account or to use the lost password link or account recovery form.

Click on “kindlansing” member and see the site it redirects to? I don’t know who to contact to fix this… but it can’t be legal.

Do you mean http://www.kindlansing.com/ ?
That domain was registered in February of last year, and even though it’s being forwarded to a WordPress.com blog, the domain is registered with GoDaddy.
You could try contacting the domain owner in an attempt to purchase it from them. The public registration records can be seen at https://who.godaddy.com/whoisstd.aspx?domain=kindlansing.com
If you wish to file a trademark complaint against the domain name, please see this information from GoDaddy: https://www.godaddy.com/help/what-should-i-do-if-i-have-a-domain-name-trademark-dispute-606
Again I’d like to state that WordPress.com does not control the domain in question, and hope the above information is of some help.

If it was registered under the business name, and not the old owners name, then don’t we own it? The public records shows just the business name, and not his…
-
The domain name should have been included in the assets transferred on not transferred and they should have given you the log-in info
Taking a name away from someone that does not want to give it up can be messy and expensive (a person I know went through that when the IT consultant forgot to renew the name and it was picked up by a squatter)

If it was registered under the business name, and not the old owners name, then don’t we own it?
You’ll have to take that up through UDRP process: https://www.godaddy.com/help/what-should-i-do-if-i-have-a-domain-name-trademark-dispute-606
The domain isn’t under our control, and we really don’t discuss legal matters in these forums anyway.
The public records shows just the business name, and not his.
Actually, the registrant details are private by a proxy. They don’t show your business’s name or any individual’s name.

Personally, I would have someone contact the old owner and politely ask about the domain name and maybe say you overlooked things in the transfer but can he please transfer it to you the new owners
