Duplicate Domain Mapping. I recently purchased http://www.wookiepost.com and its already mapped on your end to another blog. What do I do?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If the domain mapping has expired on another blog the staff can remove the expired mapping so you can map to your blog

I have flagged this for the staff to help

Just a fine point – what the other blogger is doing with the domain name is quite legal — the mapping is just expiring from having been used very legally

Didnt mean to say anything was illegal. I own the website that he had mapped. He also happens to have word press site. just want them to remove his mapped site so that i can map mine and….give them money.

The person can remove the mapping (cancel it themselves for you) – I am not sure if the staff will just cancel mapping on another site just because you want it done – you should probably contact the person that has the mapping for them to cancel it

but the staff will give you the fine print

I own the domain name???? isnt that part of mapping a domain the fact you have to own it?

  • Unknown's avatar

No you don’t need to own the domain name to map it – just have the name servers pointing to WordPress.COM for the domain mapping to work – anyone can buy domain mapping –

In two weeks I will be mapping a blog I own here to a friends domain name – then the blog will be transferred to them – and we are working together on this – I am setting up a web site for them but they don’t know much about the web so I am doing the work then giving them the site

In your case it sounds like there might be a dispute on something – but the staff will be able to tell you exactly what they will and will not do and what you may need to do – the person with the mapping can also transfer the mapping and ownership of the mapping to you

    forwarded with masking. works.

Domain mapping is reliable and we provide support for it.
Forwarding and masking is not reliable and we do NOT provide support for it.

And forward and mask has such great SEO – you make a new Post – your blog sends out the REAL address – the search engines index the REAL address – when you do a search the REAL URL will be displayed not the domain name that is forward & mask – search engines will not see much of your custom domain name with F&M – never build a brand or identity with the custom domain name

if someone visits your site with the F&M – they will just see the F&M domain name – not a good address – so if they want to send a link to your site – they will have trouble getting to a good URL – of they will send the F&M URL with a note – “look around way back several pages for the info you need to read” – yes very friendly indeed

  • You can now map the domain to your WordPress.com site. In this particular case, the domain was transferred to a different registrar but had not yet been reported to our system for it to be removed from the original site.

Mapping a domain is the best method for linking your domain to your site on WordPress.com.

Masking may bring people to your site, but the original wookiepost.wordpress.com site remains at that address, so Google and other search engines see duplicate content, which can reduce your rankings in search engine results.

Additionally, the way your site’s masking works is after clicking on a permalink to view one of your blog posts, the http://www.wookiepost.com/ remains in the address bar, making it much more difficult for users to send/share the content they intend to others.

    Have a great weekend.
