Unbelievable stupid NOOB question about Tagging
-
Please excuse the noobish question, but help educate me in the ways of the force.
After receiving some referrals from http://en.wordpress.com/tag/travel/2/. Okay, that makes perfect sense since I key worded my post with “travel”, Duhhh.
When i went to the referring page I notice that ONLY the photo appearing in my blog entry appears on the page, while other people seem to have a combination of photos and text, photos with captions, and others with just photos (like me).
Seems like I would get more referrals if the text of my entry, or at least the bog entry caption appeared with my photo!!
So help me oh great oracles of the blogosphere, what controls how this is displayed? Is this a privacy setting? key wording problem, problem with the way I format my blog entries, or is it just a feature of the magic donkey as to how blog entries are displayed??
Please help me Obi-Won, you are my only help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It’d help us answer your question if you’d provide the exact URL of the blog post that the tag page led to. As well, staff have changed the way the tag pages display things, and us volunteers are just having to reverse-engineer them now to figure out what the heck is going on with them.
But give us the URL, because we may be able to figure it out from there.

Thanks for the response Raincoaster, any light you can shed would be appreciated. Nice that you guys volunteer to help with these things!
Here is the exact URl to the post:

The link was received from the travel tag page (although its buried under 5 pages now.
Thanks !

I will let raincoaster answer your question. I want to bring your attention to this related matter. You are using too many tags and categories. I never ever use a combined total of more than 10 categories and tags on any post. The rule of thumb is – less is more. Use the fewest number relevant tags that accurately reflect content. Please see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/global-tags/ -
Timethief— I thought categories were only to categorize posts within a blog, and are not used globally for SEO or searching?
I’ve never understood why less is more. I can understand being penalized by the wordpress algorithm that decides who appears in “freshly pressed”, but that seems a fair trade off to being found by others through using more tags? Please explain. Thanks…

Also, my original post is not missing from the tag listings. The post in question was listed, it was a question and mater of how it was displayed.

That’s not correct Depending on the theme we use categories and tags appear either at the top, on the bottom or on the side of our pots. When clicked they all direct to the wordpress.com global tag pages and appear immediately under the tags and categories we assigned to them in accord with the original sate and timestamp, provided none of what’s under “missing” are evident.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/global-tags/#missing-postsWhen we place Categories an/or Tag widgets in the sidebar of our blogs those links direct only to entries in our own blogs.

I know and that’s why I said this above. :)
I will let raincoaster answer your question.

Aha got it !! I was using categories in my sidebar widget, but now understand how those in the other places are advertised. Thanks !

Using too many tags and/or categories on a post will get you reported: after you have been reported, staff may or may not take action to remove you from the global tag pages. Don’t take that chance.
As for your original question, having looked it seems to me that the posts that have BOTH the travel tag and the photography tag are excerpted as photos on the Travel tag page. Since your blog is a photoblog, I’d advise you to continue using that tag.

Great Info !!!
Thanks TImethief and Raincoaster for the excellent advice!
I am off to trim tags and categories so everything is squeaky clean in wordpressland. This has been a VERY informative Q&A session!!
