Unclear which revision is selected when restoring a revision

Add topic to favorites
When you are looking at revisions, and there is RED content on the left, and GREEN content on the right, and you click on RESTORE THIS REVISION, what is supposed to happen? I can’t seem to make the GREEN part on the right come back… it always shows the RED part.

What is the exact URL starting with http:// of the site you refer to?

Hi there,

You don’t have any sites in this account, so I’m guessing you’re using the self-hosted WordPress.org software. But the two versions work the same in this regard – it’s always the most recent revision visible on the screen, so the right-hand one. The red and green highlighting is to indicate if content was removed or added, respectively.

Thank you for your answer. I now understand that the item on the RIGHT is the most recent, regardless of what colors are displayed. Now that I understand that, the most relevant part of my question still appears to be unanswered. By selecting RESTORE THIS REVISION, am I restoring the version on the LEFT, or the version on the RIGHT?

It’s always the more recent version that is restored, so the version that appears on the right.

@kokkieh – Thank you double from me!
This has never been clear to me from the past revisions page, and makes me really scared to ever hit “restore”! I n the past when something has screwed up and I want to go back to an earlier version of my post (like to get back all the page jumps that have mysteriously been ‘scraped’ out) – I have never been sure which of the two versions shown will be restored. This is not made clear at all on the page. Sometimes i have had very unwanted results from clicking “restore”. I will bookmark this answer and review it next time!

But @kokkieh not only answered the question succinctly; now I realize his ORIGINAL ANSWER contained the information I wanted – I just didn’t see it until he spelled it out AGAIN in his second answer.

Happy to help. And this is why I love the WordPress.com forums – once an answer is given future WordPress.com users will still be able to learn from it, unlike when it’s locked away in a private email somewhere :D
