Unclicking “Anyone Can Register”
-
I get loads new user sign ups daily — all spam. People who really want to read my blog enter their emails in my JetPack “Follow Blog Via Email” box. So, is there any reason to allow anyone to sign up as user/subscriber? If I unclick the
“Membership – anyone can register” box , that will greatly reduce the volume of junk sign-ups I get, right? Also, if all the genuine people who joined as Users/Subscribers have also signed up to receive my blog via email, is there any reason for me to keep them around as Users? Can I — should I — delete them from that list?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m not too familiar with the difference between users and subscribers, but based on the description of the first paragraph, I agree that turning off that membership’s functionality is a good step. Those that genuinely want to read your content are already subscribed by email. So that’s all that matters.
