Under the Influence comments hierarchy
-
Am I missing something here? I don’t understand the hierarchy for comments and replies in Under the Influence. There seems to be no rhyme or reason: Some visitors comments/replies are shaded, some are not; mine apparently are always shaded. Sometimes there’s a line of space above a comment/reply and sometimes it touches the one above. And then of course there’s the indention for threaded comments. This looks so random that it’s confusing, at least to me. Anyone know if this is the way this theme is supposed to work? See comments section here: http://piedtype.com/2011/03/27/nothing-he-can-say/

Well, it is designed a little strangely, but I see what is going on. Someone posts a top level comment. The first second level comment has a space above it, but subsequent second level comments to that post do not. If someone comes in and replies to a second level comment (a third-level comment), the first one has the space above it, but subsequent third-level comments to that particular second level comment does not.
I see the what they are doing, but it does seem a little strange.

Ugh. I think I see it now, but it’s still too chaotic. If I knew CSS well enough, I’d simplify it — a lot. Indentions alone are perfectly adequate and that’s what most readers are used to seeing. Thanks as always for your input. :)
