Under WordPress Settings->Dicussion, the name in my gravatar hovercard is wrong.

    Under WordPress Settings->Dicussion, the name in my gravatar hovercard is wrong.

    I mouse over the gravatar and the name is wrong. It looks like it’s using a different email address that I use for junk mail. It is not the email address I used on WordPress.

    When I click to change the gravtar, it brings me to en.gravatar.com/thewrongname. But then I click “My Gravatars” and it logs me into my WordPress account which has the right email and gravatars. How do I tell my blog that “thewrongname” isn’t me?

    I think this is related to another problem I’m having. The counts in the Twitter and Google+ don’t show in posts, but the do in Facebook.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Thanks, timethief.

    When I hover over “Gravatar Hovercards” in Settings->Discussion, I see “mattstatdoctoris”. When I click that, I go to “http://en.gravatar.com/mattstatdoctoris” which shows nothing but a button to “Sign up.” On that same page, when I click “My Gravatars”, I’m directed back to my real email and gravatar.

    The problem arose, I think, when I switched hosts. I used to be wmbriggs.com/blog but am now wmbriggs.com.

    @mattstat,

    Could you take a look and see if this is still a problem?

    I corrected a small glitch in your account and I don’t see the reported behavior on this page any more:

    https://mattstat.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-discussion.php

    I can’t check directly on your other sites as they are self-hosted sites, but if you still see the problem, let me know and we’ll dig deeper.

    Hi Liz,

    That works! For the mattstat.wordpress.com account.

    But it’s still the same at my wmbriggs.com place. Might I know what the glitch is? I mean, is this something I can fix on my own?

    Thanks very much!

    I’m not sure this will work on your self-hosted sites, but try changing your language setting (Settings>General) to something other than English, saving the change, and then switching back to English.

    No go. But thank you.

    Is the solution related to how the WordPress code tells gravatar.com who we are? I notice the outputed page on Discussion->Settings has

    <p id="grav-profile-example" class="hide-if-no-js"><img alt='' src='http://1.gravatar.com/avatar/3f9.... class='avatar avatar-64 photo' height='64' width='64' />

    So WordPress is somewhere calling to gravatar.com with the wrong address? Or maybe I’m way off base.

    It’s very odd, because on the Discussion-Settings page I can see:

    Avatar Displays [*] Show Avatars
    Gravatar Hovercards [*] View people’s profiles when…

    But in the options-discussion.php there’s this:

    <table class="form-table">
    <tr>
    <th scope="row"><?php _e('Avatar Display'); ?></th>
    <td><fieldset><legend class="screen-reader-text"><span><?php _e('Avatar Display'); ?></span></legend>
    	<label for="show_avatars">
    		<input type="checkbox" id="show_avatars" name="show_avatars" value="1" <?php checked( get_option('show_avatars'), 1 ); ?> />
    		<?php _e( 'Show Avatars' ); ?>
    	</label>
    </fieldset></td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <th scope="row"><?php _e('Maximum Rating'); ?></th>
    <td><fieldset><legend class="screen-reader-text"><span><?php _e('Maximum Rating'); ?></span></legend>

    <?php
    $ratings = array(
    	/* translators: Content suitability rating: http://bit.ly/89QxZA */
    	'G' => __('G — Suitable for all audiences'),
    	/* translators: Content suitability rating: http://bit.ly/89QxZA */
    	'PG' => __('PG — Possibly offensive, usually for audiences 13 and above'),
    	/* translators: Content suitability rating: http://bit.ly/89QxZA */
    	'R' => __('R — Intended for adult audiences above 17'),
    	/* translators: Content suitability rating: http://bit.ly/89QxZA */
    	'X' => __('X — Even more mature than above')
    );
    foreach ($ratings as $key => $rating) :
    	$selected = (get_option('avatar_rating') == $key) ? 'checked="checked"' : '';
    	echo "nt<label><input type='radio' name='avatar_rating' value='" . esc_attr($key) . "' $selected/> $rating</label><br />";
    endforeach;
    ?>
    ...

    There doesn’t seem to be a place where “Gravatar Hovercards [*] View people’s profiles when…” is produced. Where does it come from?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Well, I’m an idiot.

    I figured out it was calling to gravatar with my user_email, which I had set to the wrong one. My fault entirely.

    It’s probably related to why my Twitter buttons on the Sharing Settings page (I mean in the posts themselves) aren’t showing counts.

    Thanks for all your help!

    Glad it all worked out :)
