Understanding Stats question

I did search for an answer first! On the support page it says:

    “The following are not counted:

•Visits from registered users of the blog when they are logged in.
•Visits to uploaded documents and files
•Visits from browsers that do not execute javascript or load images.
•GoogleBot and other search engine spiders.”

My query is I have WAY more hits on my Home page than I have referrals or search terms. Almost 3 times. I am not including views of pages other than Home, because clearly those got to home and then ventured deeper.

I’m just curious as to where all these other hits on the Home page are coming from!

I do not have that many registered users (I have two) and if I did, they’d probably skip past the Home page pretty quickly. Anyway, the way I read the suppor page, those just would not be counted anyway.

It is like the reverse – as if it is counting views that came from nowhere.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • That’s perfectly normal, really. There’s a lot of good info on your home page, and folks typically check that first before deciding if they want to dig deeper.

If you’re matching these up to referrers, I wouldn’t put too much trust in referrer counts for two reasons:

    1. Visitors who enter the URL (visit directly) or click a link in their non-web-based email or RSS client can’t leave referrer records.

    2. Some security software and browser add-ons block referrer records.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh – thank you for the explanation. An email must have gone viral! I noticed it a bit yesterday, but today it is just crazy.

I understood about checking the home page first – it was just where on earth were they all coming from? I was expecting there to be a closer relationship between the Referrers + Search terms = Home page hits.

Now I understand there is not!
