Understanding the WordPress plans; porting my WP from iPage

  • Unknown's avatar

I am currently looking at the possibility switching from iPage to WordPress. I am wondering if the WordPress personal plan is the right plan in terms of getting me the same features I get right now. (I know that the free WordPress plan does not match my iPage setup.)

What I currently require for a clean port, is the ability to download and load plugins into WordPress (e.g. wp-hide, yoast analytics, etc.), and also access the Arcade basic theme. In terms of the content, the XML import/export worked flawlessly.

If anybody can shed some light on this, I would greatly appreciate it. I can provide more information if needed.

    Thanks!

  • Hi there,

While you can install plugins on the self-hosted WordPress software, WordPress.com sites come with certain plugins pre-installed but it’s not possible to install additional ones. However, many features you’d need plugins for on a self-hosted site are included on WordPress.com by default.

For example, everything offered by Yoast SEO is already in every free WordPress.com site, and we offer quite detailed stats on all site, with the option of activating Google Analytics in the Business Plan. If you’re looking for other specific features, let me know and I can tell you if we have them available already.

We have a Premium theme called Arcade available, but it might not be the same one you want as there can be different themes using the same name for self-hosted WordPress:

Also please note that even if you bought the self-hosted version of this theme before, to use it on WordPress.com you’ll need to purchase it here as well as you need a different license to use the theme here. It’s not possible to install themes downloaded elsewhere on WordPress.com.
