Hi!
Are you referring to the domain mapping for freshclef.com on the site freshclef.wordpress.com? Just reply back to confirm, and I will remove the upgrade for you!
-
Yes I need to remove the domain mapping for freshclef.com so that I can map it to my new wordpress.org site
Thanks! -

I would like to now map my domain name to my wordpress.org site but when I go to do that WordPress charges me $13. I already paid the $13 to map the domain name to freshclef.wordpress.com and I paid another $18 to create freshclef.org. Why is it charging me $13 again?

Just to be clear, you’re trying to use freshclef.org with your self-hosted server. Is that correct?
Can you let me know what hosting company you’re using for your self-hosted site? You should just need to change the name servers as described here:
A Domain Mapping upgrade is only applicable if you plan on using the domain with another WordPress.com site.

Yes freshclef.org is self hosted on Bluehost. My domain name freshclef.com is registered with Godaddy. I’m trying to make it so that the URL freshclef.com points to my freshclef.org site
-
Currently, freshclef.org is pointed to WordPress.com, not to Bluehost. If you would like to point it to Bluehost, you will need to change the name servers to point to Bluehost as described here:
It looks like Freshclef.com is now pointed to Bluehost. When you said:
I’m trying to make it so that the URL freshclef.com points to my freshclef.org site
Did you possibly mean?
I’m trying to make it so that the URL freshclef.org points to my freshclef.com site
-
Ok let me start again, I don’t think I explained this correctly. I have been using freshclef.wordpress.com with the URL freshclef.com registered in godaddy. I changed the name servers at godaddy to point to freshclef.wordpress.com because I didn’t like the “.wordpress.com” extension. I did this by using domain mapping at paid the $13 for domain mapping. I recently decided I wanted a WordPress.org site. i registered on Bluehost and imported everything from freshclef.wordpress.com to freshclef.org. I believe freshclef.org is self hosted on Bluehost now? And I want to make it so that when people type in freshclef.com it goes to the freshclef.org site
-
I think I may have pointed my name servers backwards…
Thank you for your help in this I am not very good at all of this! -
HI!
You’re correct in the domain mapping explanation. You did previously use freshclef.com with your site freshclef.wordpress.com. However, that domain is no longer pointed to WordPress.com; it’s point to Bluehost. The name servers for that domain are:
ns1.bluehost.com ns2.bluehost.comSo, right now, we have the following:
– Freshclef.com is your self-hosted site pointed to Bluehost (all good to go)
– Freshclef.org is still pointed to WordPress.com
Just to recap, what do you want the primary domain to be on your self-hosted site (Freshclef.com or Freshclef.org)? That will help me to determine the best steps going forward.

I would like to use freshclef.org so that I can still use WordPress to build the website and use plugins etc but I want the URL to read freshclef.com
-
Thanks for clarifying! You’re going to want to do the following:
- Setup WordPress.org on freshclef.com. You currently control this domain through Bluehost, not through WordPress.com. You’ll need to perform the WordPress.org install outlined here:
- Purchase the Site Redirect upgrade for freshclef.org. That way, the domain will just redirect to freshclef.com, which will be the self-hosted site.
- Export your content from freshclef.wordpress.com:
- Import your content to freshclef.com once you have WordPress installed
Can you give those steps a try?
-
Thanks for the instructions! Does it matter than the domain name freshclef.com is registered with Godaddy not Bluehost?
-
Nope! That shouldn’t matter at all. The more important part is where the domain freshclef.com is “pointed.” Pointing a domain is similar to telling it where to look for information. Since the domain is pointed to Bluehost, it will reflect the content you setup on your Bluehost hosting.
