undo mistake I made when setting up account

For the type of account, I accidently chose Personal, but I wanted the recommended option that was free the first year and then I forget, $18 I think. Can I change to that option instead of canceling the whole thing and starting over next month?

  • Hi,

You may be confusing the domain pricing with WordPress.com plan pricing.

    https://wordpress.com/pricing/

WordPress.com plans include a free domain registration for the first year. After that, domains are ~$18/yr (depending on what domain you have registered, you can see domain pricing here).

Let us know if anything is unclear or you have any further questions.

Okay, that’s probably right. Nonetheless, when I went to click to pay, WordPress was going to charge my credit card $48 for the first year and $84 after that.

So are you saying that WordPress itself is going to cost, at minimum $48/year? I thought the Home page said it was free?

    Thanks.

  • Hi, I think you may be seeing the monthly price vs annual discount. I can see in your cart you just have a $48 plan.

If you check out with that and somehow wind up paying more, we’d be happy to refund the difference if needed. I don’t think that will happen. Just know if it does we’ll be here for you to fix it.

Okay, yes, I understand that point. MY POINT is that there should be an option for one free year before the charges start. I have 2 screenshots–but this blog won’t allow me to attach them–that say create a blog for free. That is the option I want to start with. I have no problem with paying after one year, but I am trying to access the free initial option and since I clicked the wrong thing when I was signing up, the website will only allow me to pay $48.

I can send you the screen shots from WordPress’s webpage saying Start For Free. I could cancel and start all over again, but then I have to wait a month. Is there no way to adjust my settings to get the free option?

That’s my actual question; I’ve reviewed the pricing and plans and domain information. Notice under Pricing and Plans above the other 4 options, it says Start for Free. That is what I want, please.

    Thank you.

    Hi Laurie:

I’d like to make sure we’re all on the same page here. You don’t want to have a paid WordPress.com plan at this time and instead use the free version?

You can create a free WordPress.com site that is free forever – you don’t need to pay for it unless you choose.

However: If you want to have a custom domain name, you have to have a paid plan. Currently, the least expensive plan is the $48/yr Personal plan.

The “$84” referred to in your cart is what you would pay for the Personal Plan if you paid for the plan on a monthly basis, so we show you that you are saving $36 by paying annually.

You’re currently on a free plan since you haven’t processed the payment on a paid plan as of yet. If you don’t want to pay for a plan yet, just click “edit” in your shopping cart and click the trash can icon next to each item in the cart which will remove the prompts to process payment on your Dashboard.

Note that without a paid plan, your site URL would be the “*.wordpress.com” URL you chose when you first set up your account, and not the custom URL you have in your shopping cart currently.

I hope that clarifies things! Let us know if you have any questions.
