Undo Theme change
-
I was setting up a new blog and somehow it changed the theme on my OilyLifeandPets Site. How do I change it back? I’m pretty frustrated that I am a premium user and there is no way for me to contact WordPress directly for help. I am also annoyed that there is no real answer in the Forum. Whats the point me having a premium account if I cant get it to work correct or reach anyone for help. Please help me change my theme back.
Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your site is private, so volunteers like myself and most of the others who typically respond first to topics here can not view your site. We don’t know which theme you have activated now or which theme or themes you had activated previously. Because the site visibility is set to private, Google doesn’t display caches for your site, blocking one method of detecting recent themes that you’ve used.
-
Additionally, there is no undo button for theme changes. The only way to find your old theme is to search for it manually in the theme directory.
I’m pretty frustrated that I am a premium user and there is no way for me to contact WordPress directly for help.
When you bought your upgrade you should have received an email address where you can contact staff directly for support issues. This forum, however, generally gets you help much faster.
I am also annoyed that there is no real answer in the Forum.
I have personally answered this exact question at least a hundred times, and I’m sure @musicdoc1 as well. Just because you’re not satisfied with the answer doesn’t mean it’s not real. The real answer is, as I’ve said above, there’s no way to undo a theme change. If your site was public, there are some things we could have tried to help you figure out what theme you used to have, but there’s really no way, for volunteers or staff, to help you with this on a private site. And no, setting your site to public now won’t help, as your site wasn’t cached anywhere while it still had the old theme.
-
I did not receive an email. In fact it always asks me to upgrade and when I have responded to that saying I thought I was, I am told I am. Now I can’t find any way to contact them and it’s showing my upgrade but does not reflect that I have one.
And all the topics I found we’re responded back by private message. You are both just “members”. Where is the support from WordPress? Thank you both for your responses but there seems to be some issues on several levels with this site and I can’t find an easy way to contact a customer service. That is no good. -

It looks like previously, you were using the theme Coraline. You can reactivate that theme by clicking “Activate” here and selecting the correct blog:
https://wordpress.com/themes/coraline
You may have to make some small adjustments to your widgets after activating the Coraline theme. You can do that here:
https://oilylifeandpets.wordpress.com/wp-admin/widgets.php
If you notice any widgets you were previously using missing from the list, please check the Inactive area at the bottom of that page (screenshot: http://d.pr/i/16nBa).
Please let us know if you need anything else! In the future, you can also email [email protected]. We respond as soon as we can!

Hi I have just done the same thing,. I was using Bueno and accidentally pressed activate on a new theme when I was browsing – there is no undo button and i dont think Bueno exists anymore!!
Can anyone help?
-
@zoegell
It does look like Bueno has been retired, but as you have used it previously you should still be able to reactivate it. Go to that blog’s WP-Admin dashboard and click on Appearance ->Themes and search for it on that page.If you can’t find it, let us know here. I’m sure Jeremey or another staff member will also check in on this thread later and hopefully he can help you if you can’t find that theme.

my site has no appearance editor and no themes install tab. How can I install a new theme? my url is https://edplaysite03.wordpress.com
-
@coached01
You can’t install new themes on WordPress.com. The only themes we can use are the ones listed here: https://wordpress.com/themes/Also see: https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/
The Appearance option can be found in the WP-Admin dashboard, as I mentioned above. You won’t see an Appearance option on the My Sites page. On the My Sites page the relevant options are under the Look & Feel heading in the sidebar.
Your WP-Admin dashboard can be found here: http://edplaysite03.wordpress.com/wp-admin/ You can also find it by clicking the WP-Admin link on the My Sites page.
-
I see the Appearance option and can get to themes, here: https://edplaysite03.wordpress.com/wp-admin/themes.php
But appearance has not Editor option and Themes has no install tab.
How do I use the themes in https://wordpress.com/themes/ ?
When I started edplaysite03 I selected the Theme “Cubic” at random. Now I’d like to switch to 2011 which I’m more familiar with. For that matter I’d like to be able to switch among any of the free themes available in wordpress.com. I just can’t see how.
I started edplaysite03 as an experiment, as the name suggests.
My previous experience was with a self-hosted site AND I was working in someone’s shop at the time and had experts all around me. I have a tough time without people to help me, so I’m grateful you’re taking the time! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! -
But appearance has not Editor option and Themes has no install tab.
Correct. That does not exist on a WordPress.COM hosted blog.
re: changing themes
Themes are just “skins” on WordPress.COM hosted blogs. You can quickly and easily change themes on any WordPress.COM hosted blog to another one found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and no data will be lost or negatively affected by the change. The only time you may have to do some work is if you are changing to a dramatically different theme and have done any CSS editing.Provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the blog go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes, Browse themes until you find one you like and click the “activate” or the “preview” link, or type in the name of the theme you want to use when it appears.
After you change your theme all you need to do is go here Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets > Inactive Widgets and re-install them where you want them to appear. The widget contents and settings will be the same as they were prior to changing themes.
Note that every theme will have a detailed theme description page with set up instructions and a live demo site page that you can consult. Here’s an example:

Oh so easy! …when you know what to do! Thank you!
You don’t happen to know offhand of a free wordpress.com “skin” I can activate that’s especially useful for someone who wants to post recordings of their music?
-
Is there a way to search these themes with keywords or something? Seems quite tedious to have to click on “Details” to find out…

Go to https://theme.wordpress.com/
Click the Find a theme button so the features filters open up there.

As you are posting lost of threads I’m sure you will want to become independent ASAP. Newbies get lost when it come to focusing on themes rather than on content creation. I recommend using the step by step tutorial linked to the bottom of your Admin page https://learn.wordpress.comSee also the “Video Quick Start” tutorial http://en.support.wordpress.com/video-quick-start/
The support documentation is all found at the Support link http://en.support.wordpress.com which is also linked to on the bottom of your Admin page.
re: the front page error message found on every new .wordpress.com blog
Nothing Found
It seems we can’t find what you’re looking for. Perhaps searching can help. There is nothing wrong with your site. By default the front page of the blog is the only page that will display all published posts on it. As soon as you publish a post not a page the front page error message and searchbox that appears on every new WordPress.COM blog will be gone. http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/
re: website not blog
A blog is a website.A blog is a post based website designed for interactive communication. As the posts are frequently updated and appear on the front page of the site it’s very attractive to search engines.
What most people call a website is merely a page based site that functions as a one way noticeboard. As the structure is page based and as pages are for static content that rarely changes, and as pages do not have RSS feeds, and as others do not backlink to pages, it is not as attractive to search engines as a post based blog structured site is.
Any WordPress blog can be restructured from being post based to being page based – no upgrade required. For greater clarity read > http://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/
Here’s a link to my step by step post too http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2013/07/25/create-a-wordpress-website-step-by-step/
re: custom menus
When we publish a post on WordPress software the software automatically creates the same entry in the Archives, and on the dynamic (automatically updating) Categories and Tags pages in accord with the Categories and Tags we assign to that post.So when we create custom menu and add the dynamic (automatically updating) category pages to it we create the appearance (not the reality) of posting to more than one page.
You need to be aware that:
1. There are differences between posts and pages described here
https://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/2. There are differences between static pages we bloggers create https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ that will not automatically update, and dynamic category pages created by the software when you publish a post which will automatically update https://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/.
3. We organize posts by category assignment prior to publication. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/ and when we publish posts the dynamic category pages they automatically display on are determined by the categories we assign to them.
So the process is:
- Assign Categories to your Posts. https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/
- Create a custom menu https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#1-create-a-custom-menu
- Add the dynamic category page links into the menu https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/view-all/#adding-category-pages
