Unexpected email verification code required at login, 2FA is disabled
-
Hi,
I am facing an issue with logging into my WordPress dashboard. Recently, when I try to log in, the system suddenly asks me to enter a verification code that is sent to my email address. The problem is that I do not have any Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) plugin enabled, and this feature was not active before.
The support bot suggested clearing my browser cache and cookies, but unfortunately, the issue persists. I have also tried using a different browser and an incognito window, but the prompt for the email code still appears.
Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can disable this email verification step during login? Could this be a feature of my hosting provider or a security plugin I might have missed?
Thank you for your help!

What site are you talking about as it seems that site isn’t running on the wordpress.com platform …

Hi @staartmees,
It’s private sites are hosted on WordPress.com. Why did you think the site isn’t on WordPress.com? Do you have any idea why this is happening or how to disable it?
Thanks

without knowing the URL we can’t be much of a help you know. Let’s wait untille a Staff member is available.

@staartmees Thanks! I think this should be a WP account-level setting rather than something specific to a particular site. Anyway, I appreciate your help. I’ll wait for a reply from the support team.

Hi there,
I understand you are currently unable to access your WordPress.com account because it’s asking you to enter a verification code.
Since this involves your account security, I’ll be following up with you directly via email so we can get this sorted safely. Keep an eye on your inbox!
Kind regards,
Jade
