unexpected renewal notice

    Hi,

I had a note last month that said:

“emusingthings.com is about to be automatically renewed on November 22, 2014.

You will be charged $26.00 for this renewal in 30 days, on November 22, 2014 . “

But today I have an email that says:

“This email is to notify you that the following domain name(s) is set to expire on the date(s) listed:

    EMUSINGTHINGS.COM – Dec. 21, 2014″

This email looks a little different than the first in colour and font. Is it a scam email? Or, is there a problem with my renewal? Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You are registered with Wild West Domains (Here)

WordPress.COM upgrades with auto-renew should renew 30 days before they expire, this is to allow time to fix any problems that might happen with a renewal (expired credit card or canceled credit card are common issues) – without having the renewal expire and something stop working

A whois shows Dec 21 as an expiration date

So both emails are probably legit and nothing to worry about and things should work normally

But I will flag this for the staff for your piece of mind

I appreciate you’re flagging this for me. I’m confused why I’d get one email saying all was well with the renewal and a completely different one saying it’s going to expire.

I’m not sure what “whois” is that is showing a Dec 21 expiration date.

    Thanks.

“whois” – all custom domain names are registered and info about the domain name is public record, the expiration date is one of the items available, as is the registrar name, name server settings etc

You have the privacy option, but all domain names need to have a way the owner can be contacted, in your case a third party gets between you and the public –

    Thanks for the explanation!

    Hey there!

Sorry for the confusion. That second email you got is an email directly from our registrar and is required by ICANN standards. As long as your emails from us say you’re all set, then you’re fine.

Please let me know if you have other questions.

    Hi Shawna,

Thanks for your note and explanation of where the other email came from. However, I’m not sure I’m “set” because it says:

“This email is to notify you that the following domain name(s) is set to expire on the date(s) listed:

    EMUSINGTHINGS.COM – Dec. 21, 2014″

    So….err….what’s that about?

    thanks!

That is the date it will expire – but it should renew on November 22 automatically

    Hi there,

That second email came directly from our registrar to notify you about your domain’s expiration date. However, when your domain is set to auto renew that means we’ll automatically renew it on the date mentioned in the email coming directly from us (in this case, November 22).

I just confirmed that your domain was successfully renewed and is now good through December 22, 2015. Please let us know if we can do anything more to help!

Thank you for checking. I feel better and relieved!
