unexpectedly deleted blog by another admin
-
I run a class blog, and set up many of the students as administrators so they could freely edit the content of the blog. The class blog was unexpectedly deleted yesterday (by a former student?), and I was wondering if I would either recover the blog of find out which of the administrators deleted the blog? The url was “www.sculpturematerialslab.wordpress.com”
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

sculpturematerialslab.wordpress.com is no longer available. The authors have deleted this site.
I am so sorry I have bad news for you. Deleted blog URLs are not recycled.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/However, you can register another blog with a similar name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/
Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.

I tagged this thread for a Staff response.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I was hoping there might possibly be some recovery of the information on the blog or a record of who deleted it. Thoughts? -
There is no possibility of content recovery. The support documentation clearly recommends one Admin per blog and clearly states why that is. http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator However, Staff can indeed tell you exactly which Admin deleted the blog and when. You will have to be patient while waiting. I recommend subscribing to this thread so your are notified when that happens.

Thoughts?
Yes, and probably painfully stating the obvious; Have only 1 Admin per site. If an Admin deletes the site, there’s no wrongdoing and the site is permanently gone.
If you want your students to be able to freely edit the content of the site, then set them up as Editors, or have them set up their own WordPress.com site. It’s free and sign up is open to anyone over the age of 13.

The blog was deleted (and the deletion was confirmed via email) by your account shortly before you opened this forum thread.
I’m sorry, but deleted blogs cannot be restored or reused. Deleting a blog is permanent and the name cannot be used again. There are several warnings about this on the Tools -> Delete Site page and in the help pages, and you are required to confirm the deletion by email.
You can start a new blog by logging in to WordPress.com and then going to http://en.wordpress.com/signup/
With any blog, you can also use your custom domain with Domain Mapping upgrade. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

Hi Macmanx – Thanks for your help. I did not delete the blog, so I assume then my account must have been compromised?
-
If so, it would be both your account and your email address, as the deletion request needs to be confirmed via a link in an email sent to the address on your account.

1. Go to your email program and change the password to a very difficult one because that’s how many hackers gain access to email accounts and to blogs.
2. Change the password on your WordPress.com username account to a very difficult one. http://en.support.wordpress.com/passwords/#change-your-password
3. Register a new blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/ Be sure your blog password to a very difficult one > http://en.support.wordpress.com/passwords/#change-your-password
4. Disable post by email > http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-by-email/
5. Disable post by voice > http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-by-voice/
6. Use a secure, encrypted connection to connect to your Dashboard. Under Users → Personal Settings, check the box that says “Always use HTTPS when visiting administration pages, and click Save Changes.
