Unexplained Extra Fee on Upgrade

I’m currently trying to buy a Premium Theme. In this case, it’s Alto, but that seems to be irrelevant.

The theme is priced at £61 but when I view my shopping cart, the sub-total is listed as £85.94.

WordPress.com would like to charge me an extra £24.94 under the title “WordPress.com Credits”.

When I click “more info”, it says:

Your current WordPress.com Credit balance will be applied toward this purchase.

I’ve never heard of WordPress.com Credits before and the above description makes it sound to me like it’s actually supposed to be some kind of discount, but it’s definitely charging me more, not less, and there is no option to remove the Credits from my cart like I can with the Premium Theme.

Obviously, this is a bit bizarre because if I had purchased something costing £24.94, I would have already paid for it at some point – it seems strange that they should only attempt to charge me on an occasion that I decide to buy something else.

Whatever these Credits are, I just want the theme, and I want it for its advertised price.

  • That was strange, sorry about that! It’s gone now.
