Unexplained Number of Hits

On June 7 there was an enormous unexplained number of hits on my blog. There is something wrong here. How do I find out why this happened?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi James, while it does seem like an abnormal number, compared to the rest of your stats, these are actual hits to your website. Every time one of your pages was viewed or refreshed, it counted as a view. Views are not unique. You got a hit every time a visitor opened any of your pages. Because you have so many articles on your homepage, when I look at your traffic, the numbers support that your visitors returned to your homepage between viewing your other pages. This bumped up your stats number quite a bit.

We do see activity like this often. It appears as a strange bump on your stats, I realize, but they are your true hits. There was no bug or glut of spammers that caused this number to be so high.

I hope this sets your mind at rest. There is nothing to worry about. If you feel as if activity continues to be odd on your site, we’re more than happy to follow-up with you. However, in this case, you seem to have had people quite interested in reading your articles over the weekend. Good news.

Wishing you the best. Please let me know if I can provide any other assistance. Thanks so much.
