Unhappy about nature of adverts appearing on blog

A visitor to my blog recently copied the image of an advertisement that appeared on my blog. I do understand that, unless I pay for an advert-free blog, WordPress does put adverts on some pages, some of the time in order to raise revenue. I have nothing against that in principle, of course. But I was very unhappy to see the content of this advert that the visitor brought to my attention. It was really very shoddy, crass, unintelligent and uncultured. I am really disappointed that WordPress allow such advertising.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Put the image in your Media Library & post back here with the link and the staff can take a look – they take the family friendly part seriously here, and some advertisers have been suspended for not abiding by the terms of service

All adverts should have an “About these ads” with a link to a WordPress.COM web page

You can purchase a No-Ads upgrade to remove them. http://en.support.wordpress.com/no-ads/ That is your only recourse, if you are, indeed, referring to the ads placed by WordPress.COM, and frequently bloggers aren’t referring to them at all when they create threads like this one.

To off-set the costs of providing free hosting to millions of bloggers, WordPress.com has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. If the ads you see are found at the end of blog posts then provided you see this small About These Ads link what you are seeing is WordPress.com generated advertising. http://en.wordpress.com/about-these-ads/

Any other ads appearing to you are not placed by WordPress.com. You have an issue on your browser or computer. They are being placed there by software on your own computer, unfortunately. These ads are sometimes caused by malware or a virus, but more often it is due to a browser extension or toolbar that you may have installed in your browser.

These sites have further explanation and suggestions for eliminating the ads:

Many thanks indeed for your replies and advice.

I have uploaded the image (JPEG file) of the advert to my media library here: https://shetlaenderin.files.wordpress.com/2014/11/advert.jpg

As I said, I have no issue with the fact that, to offer free blogs, WordPress do some advertising upon them. But such low quality adverts do nothing for the reputation of WordPress in my opinion and are not in keeping with the high standards I associate with WordPress.

(I forgot to mention that the advert was indeed at the end of a post and had the “About these ads” link.)
