Unidentified Load/View Disorder Of Blog Page Only

  • Unknown's avatar

    A scroll bar is just appearing/remaining at the bottom of browsers and also my theme is not flexing/responding properly while loading/viewing my blog page only…
    I’m also encountering the same results with different devices & locations…
    This has been happening for a few weeks and never used to happen before…
    And I had made no customisations or CSS revisions for months as I was already all-set…

    So, is it about me or just about the recent system maintenances and UI updates of WordPress HQ for us?
    I mean, is my issue temporary?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Wow @aegaeusmann, I’ve looked through all your CSS, and even the widgets in your sidebar and don’t see anything that would be causing this. I’ve requested some more eyes on this one, but it won’t happen till Monday (23rd). Hang tight and we’ll get it figured out.

    Hallo, sir; any news/luck?
    That horizontal scroll bar is still there; with a blank on the right side…
    My blog page is pretending/acting as if my sidebar is not closed; still open and trying to create enough space for itself to have a seat in the browser during my loads/views here…
    This glitch suddenly began itself just a few weeks ago…
    And I had not touched anything here almost for months…

    Am I the only one at the moment or all of the WP members with the same theme has been experiencing this?
    I hope, it is just a common & temporary one to be fixed permanently as soon as possible…

    Sorry for the delay. You have a number of things that are extending outside the right boundary, of your site, one of them being the slide menu. My suggestion would be to add the following to the end of your CSS, which will take care of things. One of the reasons I suggest this is that I’m only seeing this happen in Firefox. I can’t get the scrollbar issue in Safari or Chrome.

    .site {
    overflow: hidden;
    }
  • Unknown's avatar

    I’ve just applied the code you suggest above, sir…
    And it’s fixed my blog page; working with all browsers; including FireFox…
    But this time, my single post pages are gone…
    I mean, the default/vertical scroll bar has disappeared; so I can only view the header parts of my posts as I am not able to scroll down the pages…
    And I’ve tried the code also with “auto” keyword…
    Then it adds an extra scroll bar more [3 vertical scroll bars on the right side] to the browsers although it removes the horizontal one successfully…
    So I’ve only left it as yours [with “hidden”] for your next review…

    Sorry for my ignorance & obsession in advance but I really need to ask somehow:
    Is it technically possible that my website/theme which was already all-set before, can suddenly break my latest saved designs/customisations; my current CSS rules which were already working before, automatically itself; on its own; out of my control/activity?
    And instead of that You sir & I will suffer those trials to resolve/fix it on our own individually & manually as usual again, could an authorised one at Automattic HQ just recover my website/theme directly & properly as soon as possible, please?

    Well, all I request is a proper recovery; not a manual fix as if a video-game patch…
    I do not want to fix anything that I did not cause and not have any idea…
    If I’ve caused it, I would already have an idea…
    Then I could easily fix it; at least, I would rewind my step and would discuss & try to find another way…
    And if necessary, I would even quit the revision wisely like I had already done before…

    More than a usual glitch; this is still a curious inconvenience for me…
    Correct me if am wrong, please…
    Thanks for your patience, sir…
    Sincerely…

    Ah, on the code, let’s limit the overflow: hidden to only the “X” direction like this instead then.

    .site {
        overflow-x: hidden;
    }

    As far as why this happened to change, I can’t really say for sure. I’ve looked through recent changesets, and the bulk of things over the last 7 weeks have been dealing with translations. Only 1, was to do with the theme itself, and it had to do with alignment on smaller images, so that should not have caused any issues. One other change had to do with large screen author avatar margins. Again, that should not have affected your site.

    The other thing I’ve seen over the years, is browser changes causing things like this where there is no other changes that could have caused an issue. There was a Firefox update a couple weeks ago, and I see that Version 36 is pestering me to install it right now.

    Sorry I can’t be more definitive, or tell you exactly what caused your issue. My research into possible causes has come up empty.

    For what it’s worth, I am sorry for the inconvenience.

    Well, I updated/limited it to X coordination [analytic geometry, right?] to remove that horizontal scrollbar as you’ve recently instructed, sir…
    But unfortunately, it also added an extra scrollbar more [3 vertical scrollbars on the right side again] and I experienced the similar results/fails in my attempts with various keywords again…

    As I’ve already mentioned/suspected in my topic & description on top since the first time, I was encountering this issue on my blog page only…
    So I’ve changed/limited the code to the following one:

    .blog {
    overflow: auto !important;
    }

    And finally now, all clear!

    I’ve delibrately chosen the keyword “auto” as it has been still working successfully & perfectly for my open sidebar as push-menu since the first day I applied there before…
    And I’ve added the keyword “!important” as a precaution; just in case…
    Are all those correct/accurate; do you approve them, sir?

    And I also request your confirmation whether this revision is stable or not as I am not sure with my mini notebook screen [1024x600px is the highest resolution] accurately, sir…
    Could you check them out for me with your current devices there, please?

    Well, I’ve just learnt many deep & valuable knowledges from you again on your reply above…
    Especially the variables you mentioned in your first paragraph, whisper me that I must steady for any unexpected violation/glitch and may have to perform a maintenance like this one to fix/recover my website back at any time again…

    And the facts in your second paragraph were one of the cases/possibilities I was suspecting in my mind as well…
    Especially after Mozilla has became a partner with Yahoo! strategically against Chrome and thus Google; that obligatory update of FireFox would be inevitable…

    And there is simply nothing to be sorry about my issue at your side, sir!
    Please, make sure and rest assured that you are absolutely not the one[s] who should be sorry about this…
    You are always the best and you have already done your best for me again as usual…

    Thank you very much for your detailed and responsive/algorthmic answers…
    Thank you very much for your high efforts, genuine empathy and taking time to bear with me…
    And thank you very much for your guidance & inspiration which helped me with resolving my issue here…
    See you soon, sir…
    Sincerely…

    Breaking news, sir!
    I was just scrolling down my blog page and it was OK while loading as infinite-scroll but when I arrived at the bottom/end of my blog page, I saw that horizontal scrollbar there again…
    And subsequently, after a few individual experiments and a quick research with tiny details, I’ve noticed/realised those following ones:

    —All not clear; not exactly…
    This issue was still remaining not only on my blog page but also on my archive, tag, category, search results et cetera pages; including my single post pages, too…
    And thus, all over my website/theme…

    —This issue was occuring only while loading/viewing any pages which contain posts with HD images as media/content…
    EG: http://aegaeusmann.me/2014/10/31/hibp

    —Otherwise this issue was never occuring while loading/viewing the rest ones at all…
    That’s also why I thought/assumed that it was happening on my blog page only…
    In conclusion, I still don’t know what or why causes this issue; but now, I know when, at least…
    EG: http://aegaeusmann.me/2014/10/31/nuno-rocha-momentos-2010

    —I think, the first code you suggested me above on your first reply, could already resolve this issue completely/properly all over my website/theme; except the one on my single post pages…
    And that’s why we had to try the next alternative codes and have gone so far away from your first code/idea…

    —I am focusing on that first code delibrately; because I’ve just experienced/learnt that the keyword “hidden” is the successful/perfect one…
    Well, I noticed/realised that the keyword “auto” only allows browsers to adjust themselves according to the contents automatically and when the content is too large for them [like the one in the example above] they directly add horizontal/vertical scrollbars as much as enough for themselves to load/show the contents there somehow, right?
    So firstly, I applied your first code and subsequently below, I added an exception code for my single post pages with the keyword “initial” but it did not work and just gave me the same previous results/fails I reported above before…

    —And then, I updated/limited the code with every single body element; one by one individually; in order to make an exception for my single post pages only; to keep it independent/alone by a vice versa logic…
    So I’ve recently applied/saved the revision as below:

    .blog, .page, .archive, .search, .error404, .search-no-results {
    overflow: hidden !important;
    }

    —And now, as I see/view here; all we need is to block this issue on the only one left as an exception: my single post pages; nothing else left…
    Well, I guess/suspect that the old revision which we made for my site-footer issue on my single post pages [again] before and also contains some relevant codes [such as “overflow”] there, may already be preventing/interrupting your first code above that we had tried for this issue here…
    What’s your idea, sir?

  • Unknown's avatar

    By the way, you may want to know that I had already tried/experimented those recent codes also with the keyword “overflow-x” as well; and again negative, sir…

    For now, with those recent codes/form, it seems that we are so close to the final this time; almost all clear, sir…

    Well, I need to ask you the following ones again:

    —Are all those correct/accurate; do you approve them, sir?

    —And I also request your confirmation whether this revision is stable or not as I am not sure with my mini notebook screen [1024x600px is the highest resolution] accurately, sir…
    Could you check them out for me with your current devices there, please?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Everything looks good to me on iPhone and iPad to me, and I used my Web Developer add-on in Firefox and checked all standard screen sizes and everything looks good.

  • Unknown's avatar

    So, are we going to do anything special for my single post pages too which are the only parts left as I’ve mentioned in my previous replies above with e.g. links, sir?

  • Unknown's avatar

    On the single post pages, you can do similar to what you did, but target .single like this.

    .single .site {
        overflow-x: hidden;
    }

    The above works for me with Firefox, which again, is the only place I see the issue with the horizontal scroll bar.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Unfortunately not working, sir…
    I’ve just tried it both with X and without X but failed again; the same/previous results here…

    My single post pages’ve been still resisting this revision anyhow…
    Shall we insist again or just ignore them for now, sir?
    What’s your recommendation?

  • Unknown's avatar

    You know, I’m not sure what is going on on your end. When I comment out the overflow-x on single post pages, I have a horizontal scroll bar, but when it is active, I do not.

    Which post in particular are you looking at? Perhaps there is something within that particular post causing the issue.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Those posts which contain HD images as content/media, was causing this issue all over my website/theme; even on my archive and search results pages…
    And we have already accomplished to prevent it on everywhere with the current/specific codes; except on my single post pages…
    At the moment, there aren’t any proper CSS rules for my single post pages to prevent this issue there successfully…

    So, when it comes to those following posts [as I see, any posts with HD images only] while browsing, the issue is still occuring on my single post pages freely…

    http://aegaeusmann.me/2014/10/31/wikimedia-org
    http://aegaeusmann.me/2014/10/31/national-geographic
    http://aegaeusmann.me/2014/10/31/creative-commons
    http://aegaeusmann.me/2014/10/31/ello-co
    http://aegaeusmann.me/2014/10/31/hibp

    Otherwise, currently everything is OK with the rest ones all, sir…

  • Unknown's avatar

    PS: With “the same/previous results”, I meant that it removes the horizontal scrollbar successfully but it also either removes the default vertical one [as “overflow”] or adds an extra vertical scrollbar more [as “overflow-x”] itself automatically…

  • Unknown's avatar

    This is baffling. I’ve use the following on the pages you reference, placed at the very bottom of your custom CSS, and it has fixed the horizontal scroll issue. I checked in Chrome, Safari and Firefox.

    .single .site {
        overflow-x: hidden;
    }
  • Unknown's avatar

    Although I already do all exactly/properly; this is what I still experience here:

    http://imgur.com/E7hGTZ3,Tv9TRPH#0
    http://imgur.com/E7hGTZ3,Tv9TRPH#1

    I think, this one is particular to my mini notebook here individually…
    And I assume, this topic has already been resolved…
    Thank you very much again, sir…
    See you soon…
    Sincerely…
