Unified Navigation

@supernovia Can you let me know how I can delete images that are no longer attached to a blog. i.e. I have deleted the article but the images used to stay in the library and I could just do a search on ‘Unattached’ then delete but I can´t find this option. Thx.
-
@redqueenmusings, wp-admin’s media manager (with the advanced toggle) has an option to show unattached media. There’s a dropdown near the top that says All Media. Click that and you can find unattached items. There is no way currently to automatically attach them to posts, or to select images that are not in use on the site.
Please be careful with any bulk actions there: just because they aren’t attached to a specific post or page does not mean they are not used on the site, and deleting them there will break them on the site.
Going forward, if you have feedback on the specific features for a page, like media, would you mind opening a separate, specific thread about that? We’re trying to use this thread to get feedback about navigation, and it’s hard to untangle if there are a lot of unrelated comments.
Thanks in advance!

@justjennifer re: the save button issue, I checked on on that and we’ve had a standard of save-buttons at the bottoms of the page. Changing that to something like a save-on-toggle is possible, but it’s not standard with the rest of Calypso and wp-admin, so we’d want to consider carefully before going ahead with that.
Do you want me to file a github issue? Or, if you have another idea to make it clearer, feel free to send that over.

I think we’re currently caught up with issues we can report regarding the new navigation. Today I’ve filed some issues or passed along feedback related to:
– The stats page (speed, missing features)
– Press This missing on advanced mode
– Placement of the save button on https://wordpress.com/me/account
– A request desire for a toggle between Calypso and WP-Admin on each page
If we’re missing something you’ve mentioned, let us know!
If you have other navigation issues to report, especially if you were previously using wp-admin for some features and Calypso for others, and now cannot access both without toggling Advanced on and off, please let us know.
If you’re seeing any bugs that you think are related to the navigation changes, you can mention them here too, though they might need their own thread.
And, of course if you have feedback about something else on WordPress.com, please start a new thread. Include a site/page link and screenshots of what you’re seeing (you can upload them to your media library and reference that in the thread). We just would prefer a separate thread for each topic so we can stay organized.
Thanks again for your feedback here, folks. We really appreciate it.

changing that to something like a save-on-toggle is possible, but it’s not standard with the rest of Calypso and wp-admin,
@supernovia but it is in Calypso.AMP setting at https://wordpress.com/settings/performance/
Testimonials and Portfolio settings at https://wordpress.com/settings/writing/
Discussion settings at https://wordpress.com/settings/discussion/Toggle the button there and the setting is saved even though there is a “redundant” Save settings button as well.
There are more examples, but I don’t have the time right now to find them.
And if I understand correctly, our Account settings page is part of the Calypso dashboard.
Apropos the button position, before I headed to my own site’s dashboard, I toggled off the advanced dashboard pages button in my Account settings and then completely forgot to click Save. :/ (Out of sight, out of mind.)
As far as where to file this so it gets some eyes on it, you know better than I. :)
And, as always, thanks!

Howdy!
If we’re missing something you’ve mentioned, let us know!
WP-Admin Stats is by far the most significant loss. The summary charts were particularly important to me. On a single page, there was a table that showed the page view totals for each month and year over the lifetime of the site, and another table showing daily and weekly totals, and percentage gains or losses vs. the previous weeks, for recent weeks.
Also, in reply #3654107 on page 3 of this topic, I said:
WP-Admin features with direct link missing:
- All Users
- Add New Users
- Tools > Import
- Tools > Export
I’ve already figured out the All Users URL (/wp-admin/users.php appended to site URL), but not the others.
Also, it doesn’t make much sense to have the Home icon linked to My Sites. When you’re in WP-Admin, isn’t Home the WP-Admin dashboard? Well, it is to me.
Today I noticed that the “Import” link now goes to a WP-Admin page (perhaps I erred on that one), but of the eight importers listed there, the WordPress.com importer is the only one that isn’t located in WP-Admin. It’s in My Sites (Calypso).
I still don’t understand why the Home icon in the admin panel of WP-Admin links to My Sites, not the WP-Admin dashboard. For me, and others like myself who prefer WP-Admin, when we’re working on a WordPress.com site the WP-Admin dashboard is unquestionably Home. My Sites is the outback.

“percentage gains or losses”
I meant percentage increase or decrease vs. the previous week.

Hi @musicdoc1!
perhaps I erred on that one
That one might have been reported previously. I did notice your stats feedback wasn’t there though, so I’ve added that!
Regarding the discrepancies between the two versions of the any screen, we’re sorting out what to do there.
About users: I want to say this isn’t a new change, and that users has pointed to Calpyso regardless for a while now. Have you been using that much and did you notice a recent change there? If you need the direct links, though, here you go: /wp-admin/user-new.php
Also, we’re likely going to be out of this thread for weekend work unless there’s some major issue here. We’ll check it again for feedback on Monday.
Cheers!

No, I don’t use it much. Might have been that way for a while.
If you need the direct links, though, here you go: /wp-admin/user-new.php
Thanks, but that extension doesn’t work. Error: “The page requested does not exist.”
Example: https://songbook1.wordpress.com/wp-admin/user-new.phpWhat about the Export link? Has the Export page been only in Calypso for some time? And why would only the Blogger and WordPress importers be in Calypso and the other six importers in WP-Admin?

Was the Delete Site option removed from the WP-Admin panel with the recent Unified Navigation update, or previously? I’m not finding it in the panel.
-
@musicdoc1 AFAIK the “Delete Site” link that was in the WP Admin Tools dashboard redirected to the Settings page in Calypso, but now it’s just a “the page requested does not exist” error: /wp-admin/tools.php?page=delete-blog
and that Users has pointed to Calpyso regardless for a while now. Have you been using that much and did you notice a recent change there?
@aprudy posted in this thread a couple of days ago that having access to the WP Admin User dashboard is integral to the way s/he works with her/his students. https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/unified-navigation/page/2/#post-3652309 in case it was overlooked, and here is the original forum thread https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/wp-admin-sort-posts-by-user-author-gone/

Sorry, another correction ~
In reply #3654816 on this page, I said:WP-Admin Stats is by far the most significant loss. The summary charts were particularly important to me. On a single page, there was a table that showed the page view totals for each month and year over the lifetime of the site, and another table showing daily and weekly totals…
The first table had page view daily averages for each month, and annual daily averages. I don’t recall if it had page view totals each year. The second table covered a few recent weeks, and had totals for each day, daily averages for each week, and percentage increase or decrease for each week versus the previous week.
There were numerous other features of the WordPress.com stats that made them far preferable than the Calypso stats to me. Don’t have time at the moment to list them all, but in summary the Calypso stats are certainly aesthetically and functionally inferior to the WP-Admin stats.

Thanks! I thought there as a functional delete site page in WP-Admin recently, but I could be wrong. : )

New problem – now a new post when published does not appear as the latest post – it is shown against the timeline of when it was first composed which may be days before.

Bonjour
When publishing a post, it appears on the date/time line of its drafting, instead of in real time position. IE it does not appear as the most recent post, but appears days behind in accordance with when it was drafted, composed.

Now I’m realizing the ability to update the site favicon is either missing or impossible to find. Help?
