Uninstall Jetpack plugin

  • Let’s forget about the domain for a minute.

Do you want your site to be on WordPress.com, or at Bluehost?

If you want your site to be on WordPress.com, then you need to connect your domain to your site via the domain mapping upgrade. That way your WordPress.com site will load if you type in your domain and the free WordPress.com address won’t be visible, but your site will still be on our servers.

Use a Domain You Already Own (Domain Mapping)

If you want your site to be with Bluehost, then you need to export your content from your WordPress.com site via My Site ->Settings ->Export, and import it to your Bluehost site via Tools ->Import in the dashboard there. Then you need to also point or transfer your domain to Bluehost from your domain provider’s end.

On our end you need not do anything else after exporting your content, and you can in fact delete the WordPress.com site completely once you’re sure all your content is safely on Bluehost’s end. In other words, there’s absolutely no connection between your WordPress.com site, and your Bluehost site.

What Jetpack does is to connect the Bluehost site to your WordPress.com ACCOUNT, but that site will still be completely separate from your WordPress.com site.

I hope that clarifies things a bit, but let me know if you have any more questions.

I’ve set up an account with HostGator, are you familiar with the process to set up a site with them?

It says WordPress is installed under my mindsetformotivation.org domain.

I can’t find somewhere to upload my site content.

Thank-you for your continued support on this.

  • I don’t have a Hostgator account, but let me try to point you in the right direction :)

First, you will need the export file from your WordPress.com site. That’s the file that ends in .xml. You might have received more than one in a .zip folder. If that’s the case, extract the folder first so you have the actual .xml files. If you don’t have an export yet, click on My Site ->Settings ->Export here on WordPress.com to get that.

On hostgator’s end you should have received admin credentials for your domain. If you haven’t, you probably still need to set something up on their end. I suggest you contact their support if you don’t have an admin login for your site yet.

To access your site’s dashboard, type in [yourdomain]/wp-admin. So if you’ve connected your mindsetformotivation.org domain to the Hostgator account, it would be mindsetformotivation.org/wp-admin. Once logged in, click on Tools ->Import, select the WordPress option, and install the importer. Then import the .xml files one at a time.

And that’s it, really. Your theme, menus and widgets you’ll need to set up again on that end, and if you install the Jetpack plugin and connect it to your WordPress.com account, you can move your WordPress.com followers over following these instructions:

    Hi

Apologies for the late reply, but after trying to solve this issue for a long while I’m still not there yet, but I have made the following GOOD changes…

    – Changed the name servers with my domain provider to direct to hostgator
    – Added the IPv4 address provided by hostgator

    So that’s a positive.

However, whether I type in mindsetformotivation.org or mindsetformotivation.org/wp-admin, I still end up at mindsetformotivation.wordpress.com with the same set-up before I even got myself a new host…Like I haven’t changed anything.

I have one idea in mind that could be the problem (I could be wrong, of course) but, before I got a new host I set up my domain mindsetformotivation.org so that it forwards to mindsetformotivation.wordpress.com.

Then, I set up an account with hostgator using my (forwarding) domain. Could it be, that because the domain was still setup to forward, that it’s causing me to forever go back to mindsetformotivation.wordpress.com?

It’s just an idea, but it’s a niggling thought that it could be at least part of the problem…

I’ve tried contacting hostgator through live chat but after many tries it simply doesn’t load up.

Thank-you, again, for your continued support. Maybe my new idea could shed some light on this situation?

I checked your domain, and it’s correctly pointed to Hostgator, and it loads your self-hosted site for me, so everything is working as it should. What’s most likely happening in your end is that your browser still “remembers” that the domain used to point to us. If you clear your browser cache that should fix things.

Could it be, that because the domain was still setup to forward, that it’s causing me to forever go back to mindsetformotivation.wordpress.com?

That’s basically what’s happening, but the problem is in your browser on your computer, not with the domain itself. If clearing the browser cache doesn’t help, try clearing your computer’s DNS cache as well. The steps for that is very specific to the operating system you’re using, so please search Google for instructions for the setup you’re using.

Thank you very much for your continued assistance on this!

    Very appreciated!
