Unique IP Visitor Tracking
-
Kia Ora,
Love the stat’s that WordPress has available to users, however it would be awesome if we could track the unique visitors to our site to see how we are ‘really’ doing. To the WordPress powers that be, please consider this in future upgrades and roll-outs!

@melodynz, IP addresses are no longer unique to visitors in most cases. ISP’s now assign the same IP address to multiple users to keep from having to buy more addresses from the “web people” partially to reduce costs. Also, if you trace an IP address, it may be hundreds of miles from where the person actually is. Case in point: Right now my IP address is showing as Cheyenne, WY which is 350 miles from where I live. I have also seen it reported that I’m in Salt Lake City, UT (nearly 800 miles away from me), and Denver, CO, (450 miles from where I am).

A good example would be people using AOL as a provider on the East coast of the U.S.
Their last I.P. address usually shows up in one town in Virginia. several thousand people from Maine to Florida all with the same I.P location. -
