United Domains does not respond to the wordpress-name server

    Hello!
    I have troubles with my Domain Upgrade. I purchased a mapping of my existing domain on my wordpress-blog. The domain is “mathe-nachhilfe-skype.de” and the registrar is United Domains. I followed the instructions and entered the name server ns1.wordpress.com and ns2.wordpress.com in the respective entry form on the United Domains- Website. It gave me the following error message and I try my best to translate it in English: The name server is not consistent with with the list of the configured name servers for this domain. Please correct the NS-entry of the domain mathe-nachhilfe-skype.de on the name servers or contact the administrator of the new name server.

    Hi Martin,

    Could you confirm with your domain registrar, United Domains, what they need in order to map your domain to your WordPress.com site? It sounds as if you’ve done everything correctly with the mapping of your domain to our name servers. You’ve also set up your domain mapping upgrade properly here.

    If you’re able to communicate with the support staff at United Domains, give them the full set of our name servers:

    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns2.wordpress.com
    ns3.wordpress.com

    After those are changed, it could take up to 72-hours for that change to work properly online.

    Please let me know what your registrar says and how I might help further. Thanks very much.

    Hi Robyn,
    thank you so much for your help. I contacted United Domains and we figured out the problem: WordPress instructions only mention two name servers. But it only works with the whole set of three name servers. Ok, so far. Now I received an email by UD, that the name server update has been processed. Unfortunately it still does not work. When I enter the URL mathe-nachhilfe-skype.de into my browser I get an empty page. What is wrong? Is it possible that it has something to do with an error-message in the “my Domains”-section? When I press “My Upgrades” and hit the gear icon on the right side of my purchased domain, it gives me the red message “DNS needs to be updated”. Do I need to care? Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hey there Martin!

    So glad your domain registrar was able to help with those name servers.

    It can take up to 72-hours for name server changes to work properly online. As long as those three name servers were added, things should work well once they propagate internet-wide.

    While you are waiting for your domain’s mapping to begin working properly, you can make your WordPress.com site your primary domain, so visitors can still view it at the mathenachhilifeskype.wordpress.com address.

    You’d do that here:

    https://mathenachhilfeskype.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains

    Just make your WordPress.com address your primary domain.

    Your registrar should be able to tell you when everything is working properly on their end, so you can change your primary domain back to your custom URL.
