Universal login not working.
-
I’ve got my wp.com login connected to all of my sites through Jetpack. It used to work just fine. Today though I can use the mobile and desktop apps to create, edit, few content on my connected sites (danetidwell.com) but when I try to visit the WP Dashboard on them, I’m booted to the login screen (wp-admin) and the credentials that work just fine for WP.com and the WordPress.com apps don’t work, saying wrong password or username.
Further, when I click the link to reset the password and enter the username, I’m told the email is being sent, but I never get anything.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m not aware of any universal login. I am aware of the fact the wordpress.COM hosted sites and wordpress.ORG software installs have different logins.
We provide support only for wordpress.COM hosted sites. Our support docs do not apply to
(1) local installs of wordpress.ORG software on your own server or
(2) wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, and we do not provide support for them at wordpress.COM.Also, note that we do not provide Jetpack support https://jetpack.me/support/ for sites linked to wordpress.COM accounts with the Jetpack plugin so they display on the My Sites wordpress.com account page.
Some Jetpack solutions are here http://jetpack.me/support/
Others are in the Jetpack support forum at WordPress.org
http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/jetpackHowever, if help cannot be found at either one then they can file a Jetpack support ticket here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/?jetpack=needs-service
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
As you are referring to a site that is not hosted here, if you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right-hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.

I’m sorry timethief, but your statement is incorrect. You should be more aware of updates to WordPress before copy/pasting a generic, outdated response.
With the most recent updates to WordPress.com/.org/Jetpack and the mobile apps, there is a federated login system. Logging into the desktop app and mobile app with your .com credentials gives you access to every WordPress site you manage, whether at wp.com or a custom domain.
Furthermore, you can now manage custom domain .org websites from within the .com Dashboard – posts, pages, themes, and plugins.

Thank you!
I’m sure the recent changes are probably confusing to many people with what is being supported where.
I think the official name of the service is WordPress Single SignOn.

Hi there,
Today though I can use the mobile and desktop apps to create, edit, few content on my connected sites (danetidwell.com) but when I try to visit the WP Dashboard on them, I’m booted to the login screen (wp-admin) and the credentials that work just fine for WP.com and the WordPress.com apps don’t work, saying wrong password or username.
It’s not possible to visit the dashboard in the apps. The apps only give you access to the My Sites interface. To access your self-hosted sites in the apps, you both need Jetpack installed AND the Manage module enabled. Then your Jetpack sites will appear in the My Sites list
If you click on the dashboard option in the mobile apps you are directed to the browser interface instead, where you need to log into your self-hosted site’s WP-Admin dashboard using the login credentials you created for that dashboard. Your WordPress.com credentials will not work there, because it’s not a WordPress.com site.
If you have single sign-on enabled in Jetpack, you should see a button on that login screen to log in using your WordPress.com account, but that will only work if you’re already logged into WordPress.com in that browser session. If you don’t see that button, it means you don’t have single sign-on enabled in Jetpack.
This is how it should look:
