Unknowingly changed URL of deleted blog, have I now lost desired URL?
-
Hi all, it was a little difficult to describe my issue just in the title, so I’ll expand:
A while ago I opened a WordPress account registering the username hbdpetz and made the URL of that blog hbdpetz.wordpress.com. I didn’t use it much at the time, and forgot about it.
Today I decided I wanted to make a blog again, and went to register with the same email address I used for the aforementioned account only to be told it was still in use. So I logged in when prompted and had a look at changing my username which I went ahead with.
While changing my username to habdashpetz, it also asked if I wanted to change my blog URL at the same time to match the new username which I thought great, saves me a lot of hassle, but afterwards I wasn’t seeing my blog anywhere.
What it seems has happened is I deleted that old blog when I stopped using it – yet WordPress has allowed me to change it’s URL, and now because it’s ‘in use’ I’ve lost the URL I wanted, and can’t go back to the old one either because that’s ‘in use’ too!!
I understand the reasons WordPress won’t allow blog URLs to be recycled, but this seems really silly. You’ve allowed me to change the URL to a blog that was deleted, and now it’s lost to me because it’s classed as ‘taken’? And I can’t revive my deleted blog either? :(
If anyone can suggest any solution to the situation I’d be eternally grateful, but it seems I’m just going to have to come up with a new blog URL…grr! :(
