Unknown background music has appeared on blog.

Unknown background music appeared on blog today 21/08/2014. I believe this is due to hacking. It’s difficult to determine if all posts are affected because the music cuts in and out unpredictably but the post entitled ‘So what ARE the rules of music’ is affected.
Thanks, John Morton.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The post is entitled ‘So what ARE the rules of music?’ I am the only user of this blog. If I use a link off my Facebook business page, as other visitors might do, the music doesn’t show up. It’s on now as I type, having logged in as usual.
-
The music is now permanent, wherever I am on WordPress. I can only silence it by logging out.

An update on the above: the background music is still present but tends to appear after a while, not as soon as I view posts. I know that my approach to music has aroused hostility amongst younger rock musicians so I’m regarding this intrusion as a form of mischief-making. There has been no response from WordPress directly so far. One possibility is that leaving an email program open whilst using other sites may be an avenue for hackers. I believed his happened with my Facebook business page.

Hi John,
I checked your account and your blog, and I don’t see any evidence of hacking. I also don’t hear the music you mentioned, either on your blog or at the link you mentioned: https://wordpress.com/read/post/id/42411146/816/
Can you please try logging in to WordPress.com in a different browser to see if the same thing happens there? If you need, you can download the latest version of popular browsers here: http://browsehappy.com/
-
Thanks for that. I just logged in via Chrome (I had used Explorer on previous occasions) and the same thing happened. The music kicked in after around 4 minutes. The problem only occurs on WordPress and, in any case, I’m puzzled how a local problem, peculiar to this machine, might be the cause.
-
Have you tried running a virus scanner or malware scanner (like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware) on your computer? It’s possible that a virus or malware is causing that music to play.
Could you also let me know exactly what links you have open in your browser when the music starts playing? I can take a look at those exact links to see if something else might be going on here.
-
I only have WordPress open at the time I use the site. I run Norton 360 here and perform regular checks. Nothing is showing up. You have to wait a while for the music to start. I thought someone had solved the problem and then out came the music again. Someone has added rap style lyrics to ‘Pick Up The Pieces’ by the Average White Band from Scotland. I’ll try a Norton scan again and post result on here, thanks again, John. P.S. I’ll also change password on WordPress.
-
Have you hotlinked any files and posted them in your blog? I’m wondering if someone wanted to teach you not to do that, took the file down, and replaced it with the music on autoplay (with a crazy-making delay).
-
I only feature text on the blog with occasional (permitted) URL links to other bloggers. The terms ‘hotlinked’ and ‘crazy making’ are new to me, thanks, JM
Carried out full Norton 360 scan last evening. It took around an hour and found no problems. I’m now about to log out and change password.
-
You say it appears whenever you’re on WordPress.com, even if you’re not on that site? You wouldn’t happen to have the Reader open at any point, would you? We often get reports of some moron uploading something on autoplay and if it’s anywhere on the Reader and the Reader is open, you get to hear it. So one of the sites you subscribe to is hosting that monstrosity.
-
I’ve just tried accessing the site 3 ways: 1) by entering WordPress and opening my blogs via the Reader, as others would do; 2) Entering via the editing procedure; 3) Entering via an external link (Twitter). So far the unwanted music has not been present. The only thing that has changed is a new, strong, password. I’m unsure how one could have the Reader open at the same time as anything else on WordPress. Thanks again to all, JM.
-
If 1) is your usual procedure, that’s probably the key. Most people just go to http://theirblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin and log in there.

Hi John, thanks for the updates. If the music starts playing again, can you please copy the link from your browser’s address bar and paste it in your reply here to let me know the exact page you’re on when the music starts?
Also, can you please check to see if any other browser tabs or windows are open at the same time?

The music seems to have disappeared but it might be too early to rejoice. Norton lists a number of threats. A common one reads: ‘Rule rejected UDP(17) traffic with (numeric I.P. here) port SSDP(1900)’
-
Thanks for the update! Hopefully, addressing the threats in Norton will resolve this for you. If the music returns, please let me know.
