Unknown links on my blog
-
Hello:
I have enabled my privacy settings for viewing to be public but not to be searchable by Search Engines. It was only yesterday that I found that there were some links from another “wordpress” site embedded in some (but not all) my posts. I did not put those links there and I wonder (1) where they came from and (2) how can I get rid of them…permanently.
I have taken a screen shot of the page and can upload it on request.
Thanks in advance for your help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

polemicalandscapes.wordpress.com is no longer available.
The authors have deleted this blog.
Without the URL beginning with http of your blog in question we can’t start to help you.

Hmmm…very strange. In the form that precedes the text box on the forum, I specifically chose my blog address. Anyways, apologies for the mix-up, here is the url: http://xbattlespace.wordpress.com/

Without a link to a post showing this behavior, or a sample of such an embedded link, we won’t be able to help much.
Just so you know, WordPress.com itself monetizes some of our links if the sites we are linking to are partners in Skimlinks. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/property-attribute-oncontextmenu-being-added-automatically-to-url?replies=14 I don’t know if this is what you are referring to, but I thought I’d throw that out there.

Well, here is a link that shows this: http://xbattlespace.wordpress.com/2011/03/14/the-contagion-of-fear-2/
The interesting thing is that when I am logged in I cannot see these links. If I delete the text of the post but keep the title of the post intact, the ads/ links disappear.
Lastly, the ads/links don’t appear on all the pages (on all posts). By clicking on the link, it takes me to this site: http://ecopressed.com/
Thanks for the heads-up on the monetizing issue. I did not know that.
I really do hope I can get rid of these annoying ads/ unsolicited links. Thanks.

These are just related links. You can remove them by selecting “Hide related links on this blog” from Appearance -> Extras in your Dashboard.

@ macmanx…
I tried what you suggested but the links are still there. Anything else I could try?
Thanks

Ah, taking a closer look, you must be referring to the ads. Sorry about that.
To support the service (and keep free features free), we sometimes run advertisements. We try hard to make the ads discreet and effective and only run them in limited places. If you would like to completely eliminate ads from appearing on your blog, we offer the No-Ads Upgrade: http://en.support.wordpress.com/no-ads/

@ macmanx…
OK. Thanks. I did not know about the ads. Not really a problem, I just wish they were lower down on the page and not between the post and the comments section. Since the contents of the ads and that of the posts generally don’t sync, the contrast is jarring. But if that is the way it is, so be it.
As soon as I have built up the contents, I’ll probably sign up for the ad-free service.
Thanks again for your help.

@kristalsoldier, Sorry for the late reply. Google ads show up mostly to people who are not signed in to WordPress.com and/or coming in through search engines. Even clicking on the link you provided I don’t see any ads on that post because I am logged in, so I’m glad that macmanx could clarify the issue for you. Cheers!
