unknown user/gravatar requests access to private blog

  • Unknown's avatar

I have searched support for information concerning the issue I’m having and found a question that describes my problem, but no answer. The question was:

    2) Unless a WordPress user has associated their wordpress username with an e-mail address in their profile, I have no way of contacting that user before I authorize them (for instance, if I want to verify their identity). Again, am I missing something? Can you provide a user with the e-mail address associated with the username requesting access? If not, can you at least add an “e-mail the user requesting access” function, and put it in the e-mail I receive when an unknown blogger is requesting access? This way, I can contact them, but their e-mail address can remain undisclosed to me.

Thank you for your help for a WordPress (and blogging) newbie!

The response was: At this time, private blogs are really designed for the blogger to invite the viewers, but we’ll look into expanding the request feature.

Although I have invited viewers to my blog, some have evidently had issues accessing it via the invitation and have chosen instead to request access. I’d like to know who is requesting access to my blog. Is there a way of knowing this at this time? I guess it would be theidentity of gravatar that is unknown to me…

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That’s right, you need the user’s email address OR wordpress.com username before you can invite them to a WP.com private blog.

If someone does not send you enough information for you to decide whether or not to let them in, I would suggest not letting them in. The Request Access button is a magnet for spammers.
