Unlinking Blogs

    We set up a self-hosted wordpress.org website/blog at http://www.bellasolutions.com

Our old wordpress.com blog is “bellafieldservice.wordpress.com” which had domain mapping to blog.bellasolutions.com

We linked the old wordpress.com blog to our new self-hosted wordpress.org website/blog. However, our new website was receiving “bad” inbound links from the old blog so we want to unlink the blogs and delete the old blog completely.

We successfully deleted bellafieldservice.wordpress.com but the new wordpress.org website/blog appears to still be linked. When we log into our wordpress.com account the new wordpress.org (Bella Field Service Software) is listed as a blog and we can access the site. How is this possible? How do we unlink and completely delete the old blog so the inbound links to the new self-hosted site are removed?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • You have jetpack active on your new site, which is why you can access it via logging into WordPress.com. A WordPress.com connection is required for a number of Jetpack’s features.

But your WordPress.com site itself is completely deleted.

Thank you for the response. The blog has been deleted for a couple weeks, however for some reason we keep getting inbound links from it.

Here is an example of a new link on July 24th, 2013:

    Inbounk Link: http://fleetvehiclerecovery.com/gps-and-fleet-management-service-management-software/

    Links To: http://blog.bellasolutions.com/2012/09/20/gps-and-fleet-management/

We found the follow information on Google Webmaster Help forum:

“If outdated pages from your site appear in the search results, ensure that the pages return a status of either 404 (not found) or 410 (gone) in the header.”

The deleted blog does not return a status of 404 or 410. The blog url’s return “Warning! Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found. Please log in and go to the Domains Upgrades page of your blog to use this domain.”

It seems like the blog is still there. How do we fix this? Do we need to uninstall Jetpack to completely disconnect the deleted blog from our website?

This is critical because these inbound links are drastically reducing our rankings.

The post on http://fleetvehiclerecovery.com/gps-and-fleet-management-service-management-software/ contains a link to your blog.bellasolutions.com address. Even though the site does not exist anymore, the link in that post won’t change.

Please let us know if you need any further assistance!

How do we make the deleted blog and all of the posts return a status of 404 or 410? This is the only way Googlebot will remove the inbound link.
