Unlisted posts?
-
Did I miss this feature? I need to make posts that don’t appear on the front page. These are usually support info or things like additional info for a craigslist posting. I don’t mind if they can be found by searching or calendar etc. And they are public posts. I do this now by back dating the posts by 1 year. But this is clunky. Back in the day I used an addon that had a checkbox to keep off the front page, but I’d like to have this feature now in the real wordpress.com without any addons.
Did I miss it?
Thanks.

Hi there,
Do you mean you want certain posts to not appear on the site’s front page? If so, that’s not possible. The front page/posts page always displays all posts published on a site, with the most recent first. This is at the core of how the WordPress software works, and a plugin is the only way to change that.
Alternatively, you can set your site’s front page to a static page instead. Then you can use the Blog Posts block to only show posts from the categories you select on that page.

Thanks. I have a post pinned to the front page and want to show recent posts there. So, with no way to make a post public but unlisted, I guess I’ll just continue to back-date these posts by a year before I share them out in the world.
Looks like a missing feature to me. Maybe another way to add that feature would be to add a feature to categories like “Unlisted”, which if that category appears for a post would keep it off the blog. But again, personally I’d like these posts to be searchable, appear in calendar and if you clicked a category to have them appear in that list. Anyway, Maybe nobody else needs this.
Yep. I used to run my own “wordpress.org” site years ago. But after it was hacked twice between updates, I moved here to wordpress.com and have loved the experience ever since. Gotta love not worrying about backups and malware.
Thanks.

Yeah, there are definitely ways that you can do this with a plugin, but as @kokkieh mentioned, it would require a Business Plan. But, here is an article on how to add the feature if you ever choose to upgrade:
