unlock domain

I have a website domain name that I would like to unlock and switch to square space. How can I unlock the domain to transfer it over?

    Hi there!

Could you please let us know your domain name so that we can help you?

There are a series of steps that you’ll need to follow to receive the transfer code on your email. The instructions to unlock the domain for the WordPress.com hosted website can be found here-

It says not to share any contact or personal information in it. When I go to my account page and go to the domain tab, it is not showing my domain name. It says I owe $111. I tried to pay it, but the payment will not go through. It says jetpack sites are unable to upgrade. I do not know what that means. My domain name is listed as my primary website on the main account page, but when I select the domain page on the left hand side, my domain name is not coming up. It says “Add” and I do not want to add it again because I am hoping to transfer it and it says you cannot transfer a domain name for 60 days after activating it.

  • Hi –

It’s ok to share the domain or site address involved with your queries. That’s public facing that anyone can find on the internet. We’re more concerned with last names, contact details, financial details, etc…

Looks like you’re writing to us about upbeatvintage.com? You aren’t finding it under My Sites because it was removed from the account. Please confirm if that’s the domain in question. We need to restore it to your account ASAP and then you can proceed with the transfer. It was registered back in 2014.

Yes! How do I get the domain name back?
Please restore it. I will pay the chargeback. I’ve been trying to pay it, but it keeps saying jetpack sites aren’t available for upgrade?

  • Thanks @danielmjacobs, can you see if you’re able to pay the chargeback fee here?
    https://wordpress.com/checkout/upbeatvintage.com

Once that’s done we’ll be able to re-add the domain to your account so you can transfer it as you’d like.

It will not go through. It reads, “This upgrade is not available for jetpack site.”

  • Are you going directly to https://wordpress.com/checkout/upbeatvintage.com? You should only pay the chargeback fee that’s already in the cart there.

If you first try to add a plan or domain before paying it won’t work, and you’ll get the error you’re receiving. But you should be able to pay for just the chargeback fine on its own, as it’s already in your cart.

I did not try to add a plan or a domain, I tried to pay the chargeback and it would not let me. I specifically did not add a plan or domain because I read that it takes 60 days to transfer new domains and I did not want to delay the process. Is there another way to reach out to someone? I am very discouraged by the length of time it is taking me to resolve this issue.

  • It looks like you’ve since opened a ticket directly with our billing team and they’ve sent you a manual payment request. Someone will reply to you there soon to help get your account unlocked.

I read that it takes 60 days to transfer new domains and I did not want to delay the process.

It only takes about a week to transfer a domain. Newly registered or recently transferred domains cannot be transferred for a period of 60 days, but your domain has been registered with us since 2014, so it’s not under any transfer lock.

All you need to do to transfer it is request the transfer code on our end, and once you provide that to your new provider and they start the process the domain should be moved to them in five to seven days.
